What do these words mean when spoken by a guy.."I'm glad I don't have a girlfriend because I don't need the hassles right now". If these words are spoken to a girl, is the girl to conclude the guy does not have interest in her??

Stop trying to overanalyze what people say...and NEVER think that everybody means the same thing by the same words.

I'm glad to be single can men:

1. It's nice that I don't have to pay extra income tax.

2. I don't make enough money to support another person.

3. My last relationship was so bad it's nice to have a little freedom for a change.

4. I just need some time to myself right now to sort things out.

5. I am very happy with myself as a person, which makes me an perfectly ideal candidate for a relationship with somebody who is looking for a person who doesn't have a lot of problems.

6. It's nice to be able to go out and be free to talk to anybody I want without feeling guilty or being afraid it will get back to my partner.

etc., etc., etc.

Sometimes people mean the opposite of what they say and this statement could be a means of trying to convince themselves they are happy when they would really rather have a significant other in their lives. I think most people, given the option, would jump for the chance to have love in their lives rather than be single...if it was quality love.

If you take a statement like that personally and make it mean something negative intended for you, that says a whole lot more about you than about the person saying it.

Tony's reply was spot-on, as usual. I'll add my gut response to your question.

The answer is Yes.

Whatever "hassles" means to this guy - if he said it to you I would take that as a subtle way of saying, I'm not interested in you as a girlfriend right now.
