Trialbyfire Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Unicorns are cool. I really like the Loch Ness monster, too. I don't believe, but I like the idea. Did you hear the latest about the scientist who took shots from above showing Nessie below the surface? They were interesting pics.
Storyrider Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Did you hear the latest about the scientist who took shots from above showing Nessie below the surface? They were interesting pics. No. Is there any chance they are legit?
Trialbyfire Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 No. Is there any chance they are legit? Yes, I believe they were legit. You could see something below the surface which was very large.

a4a Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 OP if she is serious and really believes this....... huge red flat IMHO. I mean come on. Then again I am thinking this has to be a joke post because it seems to far fetched for me to believe.
electric_sheep Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Did you hear the latest about the scientist who took shots from above showing Nessie below the surface? They were interesting pics. I saw a documentary about Nessy on the History Channel a few months ago, and if I'm not mistaken the guy who took the original famous pic (that started the whole craze) admitted on his death bed that he had faked it.
doiask42much Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 I once had a roommate who liked to decorate our apartment with fairies and believed the healing energy of various crystals and rocks. Every now and then I would deride her beliefs with my skeptical-minded friends because I am a b**** like that, but she was the sweetest person I have ever met in my life and still is. She never spoke ill of anyone and was never in a bad mood like EVER. I do feel somewhat bad about that, but I don't think she actually believed in the existence of fairies but just liked the idea of them, maybe that she could be a tiny girl (she was a big girl) with wings and fly away from her life (which she ended up doing and now lives in Florida)? I don't really know. Maybe your gf's beliefs are symbolic? You never really said why she believes in these creatures and to what extent. I half think she is just yanking your chain to test the limits of your feelings for her. I've done that before. Does she do anything else that could be considered crazy or odd?

The sightings and rumours of Nessie have been around centuries and centuries before that photo. I think you're talking about the Wilson picture. Btw, Wilson was a gynecologist so what did you expect...
WarriorPoet Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Here are those new shots of Nessie http://www.cryptomundo.com/cryptozoo-news/holmes-nessie/ It looks like a snake under the water, kinda, a big one.
sb129 Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 There is no way that can be Loch Ness with water that blue and clear. Loch ness is in northern scotland! Grey grey and more grey, esp in may.
katiebour Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 I'm with doIask here, I'm wondering why/to what extent this magical thinking occurs. Does she believe that she has actually seen them or interacted with them? Does she worship or try to interact with or placate them? This to me would be a sign of possible mental instability (or maybe they really do exist and I just haven't seen em... lol.) Is she an otherwise intelligent young woman? Does she have any logical reasons for her belief? Or is it more of a security blanket, a desire to believe in magical things? I'd like to believe in magic, fairies, and so on, but I have no logical basis to believe. But the desire to believe in the unseen, is, as was pointed out before, often called "faith" and engaged in by folks around the world. As C.S. Lewis pointed out in the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, there are only 3 real options. 1. She is lying 2. She is mad 3. She is telling the truth If it's #1- i.e. she's lying to herself because she WANTS to believe, I'd say it's harmless enough as long as it doesn't progress into #2. If #2, run for the hills. If #3, take along your video camera and get some pics of the unicorns for the rest of us

But the desire to believe in the unseen, is, as was pointed out before, often called "faith" and engaged in by folks around the world. It's a security blanket. Any logical reasons? Nope, just an intense need for the universe to make some sort of sense. I think the biggest problem here is her reactions are generally emotionally driven while mine (or so I hope) are guided by logic. So while I will endlessly burrow to get at the heart of something she is content to let things just be because she has found a comforting way to view reality. *sigh* It's okay though. This is all out in the open and the last thing I heard from her is that she is willing to listen to what I have to say. Someone suggested this was a joke post... I'm afraid not . This is a crazy world full of interesting people. I seem to have found someone interesting. Plus I would not wish to tarnish my name at the forums by making my first post a... err... fairytale. One last thing. Could someone perhaps tell me how to quote from multiple messages? Thanks
katiebour Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 To quote someone, simply type a bracket [ and then type quote inside of it, and close the bracket ] to finish your quote, type the same bracket [ and then type /quote and close your bracket ] it's hard to explain this without accidentally including the formatting! so like this (minus the spaces) [ quote ]blah blah blah [ /quote ]
