Teacher's Pet Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 Anyone who is/might be in the Northern NJ area is cordially invited to help me celebrate the ONE YEAR anniversary of my breakup from B (6/19), as well as celebrating ONE YEAR of NC (6/25). I'm throwing a little dinner/karaoke party on Saturday June 23rd at one of my favorite local restaurant/clubs to celebrate 1 full year of being the "new me". It's a relatively inexpensive restaurant (most dinners are in the $10-$18 range), and the karaoke there is always pretty wild. Since LS has been so influential on my healing process, I thought it would be really cool if a few people from here showed up. :) Perhaps a bunch of us could get up and sing Love Shack, though that would be really, REALLY corny. I admit, I do a pretty good Fred Schneider impression. So... if anyone might be able to come, PM me for details. As an added bonus, me and Ariawoman do a rendition of "Paradise By The Dashboard Light" that is second to none. That in itself should be reason to come. Anyhow, everyone is welcome. And heck, we'll be doing it again in July for my birthday, so consider this a warmup event. -tp master of ceremonies (and puppets)

They always cut ones when we talk about getting together lol. I shall be there. And I shall be singing. 6/21 is my 1st breakup with current 3 breakup ex haha. Yeah, I would have been better off leaving it as 1 break up. Stupid stupid me.

Also beware with NJT as the last train back is usually earlyish. I think you'll have to transfer somewhere to go that line. Secaucus maybe....check their site. You can always cab it or get someone to pick you up at the station to go to the restaurant :-) Edit: I just checked NJTs schedules. You'd be best off getting someone that lives in the area to take you to a path station as they run overnight don't they? NJTs last train out of the area is like 1045pm, then not again til 645am or something. We definitely dont have the most convenient public transport into/out of the city.

Like you, I plan to celebrate this event...for having survived it, learned from it, and for having the wisdom to walk away when the ex came sniffing around for round 2. No thanx!!! Party on, dude. I couldn't tell you the day of any breakup/month in including when my divorce was final. I could tell you the year though The things that are important to me are happy times.. Your breakup wasn't a happy event so why celebrate it ? It shows me that you really aren't over your ex yet.. maybe the last girl you dated sensed that.. Not wanting to poo poo your happy times but I just don't feel that this is some sort of healthy event for you

Sure, I was really hurt when we broke up, but over time, and over a LOT of self-examination, I realized that being with her did more hurt than good for my psyche..... I'm sure I could have "prolonged" the relationship somehow if I tried, but at what cost? We broke up, I maintained NC since the day it started, and I've done nothing but improve as a person.. THAT, my friend, is a reason to celebrate. Some people use a breakup as an excuse to stop trying to better themselves, my breakup helped me FIND myself, so yes, I'm going to celebrate being apart from the woman who held me back (or technically, allowed me to hold MYSELF back) in life. Come on out to Jersey. We'll party like it's 1999. -tp how the hell did Prince party in 2000?

So, I infer from this that when you were coming down to NYC you were NOT taking public transportation? Unfortunately, my car is stationed across the ocean... I'll have to do some research to see how I can get there

I'm indifferent towards HER, and I've transferred all the "energy" wasted on her into developing a relationship with MYSELF. It's almost like my breakup was a "launching point" for my new life, so it's more celebrating a beginning than an ending, of course, making it sound like the ENDING is the theme is a lot funnier. Ariawoman and I (ok, mostly her) totally rocked the joint (karaoke, get your minds out of MY gutter!), and the presence of great friends (especially some that didn't know each other until tonight!) made it quite a fun and memorable evening. I even got to flirt with a really hot chick, and managed to make some progress even with certain people pelting me with random items off the table the entire time. Life's getting better. Monday marks one year of NC, so then I can officially say I WON. Something inside me tells me I've been a winner all along, it's just taken some ups and downs to figure it out for myself.... And.. it's one month until my birthday...so I aint done partying yet... -tp it's my party, and I'll cry if I want to.... just didn't need to.

My favorite part of the night had to be the last song when those 4 guys went up there totally sh*tfaced and sang I'll make love to you by Boyz II Men. It was possibly the funniest thing I've ever seen LOL. I also especially enjoyed the dumbfounded look you had on your face after I got done singing Take Me or Leave Me from Rent. As if you'd never heard me sing before LOL
