polywog Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 Hey guys, I stated this on one of my pathetic threads, but this merits a whole new thread! Super-quick summary for those who haven't read my other threads: Dumped, lost my home along with my man, live in a town that is very hard to get housing in, have a temporary place and have been in limbo...not good for a homebody domestic type like me.... But....Now I have just won a new place in a housing lottery, spanking new, I'll be the first person in there.... one bedroom, right near my favorite beach, dishwasher, art studio included, parking, stainless steel gas stove (I LOVE to cook) bathtub. laundry hook-up.... all this stuff is a huge big deal for me! You will all be invited to my housewarming party. Maybe we can have a bonfire on the beach! YeeeeeHaaaa!!!!
Star Gazer Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 Sounds awesome!! :bunny: What do you mean, "housing lottery"? It's not FREE, is it? More like there were just so many applicants they had to draw straws??

Author polywog Posted June 5, 2007 Author Posted June 5, 2007 Poly, now I almost start to believe in Karma. ENJOY!!!! OK, you bring the weenees for the big bonfire extravaganza I want to have! I have to say, I suspect I was "gifted" the place as everyone who works for the affordable housing lottery was hoping I'd get it.... but so what, I deserve it! Anywho, thanks for posting MJ, if you are ever on Cape Cod, PM me.
Trialbyfire Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 Congrats poly! I can bring a big kettle to hang over the bonfire and we can boil up some corn on the cob to go with the weenies!
underpants Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 Congratulations, Now you can truly make this place your own, and no one can take it away. Wow, art studio, washer dryer, on the beach.....I want to live there. Good for you. You deserve it. Regards, Unders
Author polywog Posted June 5, 2007 Author Posted June 5, 2007 Sounds awesome!! :bunny: What do you mean, "housing lottery"? It's not FREE, is it? More like there were just so many applicants they had to draw straws?? I'll explain... It's not free, but it's way lower than the market rate rent for the kind of place it is. Believe it or not, the home I'll have has a market rate of nearly 500K here. It's crazy, but that's what's happened in my town in the past 5 years. The lottery for my place was specifically for artists or writers who had a fellowship at an art colony here, which I did a few years ago... the idea being to keep artists in this town (which is known for its artists). This was lucky for me because not too many people applied. They did do something like drawing straws, they are legally obligated to, but I was told by more than one person within the past few days that I was the only visual artist to apply for the combo of the home and studio. I still couldn't relax despite this info until I got the call today. One of the biggest problems here is that it's so hard to make a living. It's a tourist town with a seasonal economy. This gave me an advantage, as I've lived here for years and have a job... a measly one, but I am well established here and can get enough work to be able to survive, unlike some others who might have applied and have to come here cold to try to make it. Anyhow, that's the scoop. excuse me while I pause to celebrate...:bunny:
ilmw Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 Congrats Poly... on the new home... I'm sure you will fill it with lots of new memories...:bunny: BTW.. why no invite...... Hey if I start driving now... I might make it.. for the weekend.. But I'll need better directions than "east of the Mississippi"...
MagnoliaJane Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 if you are ever on Cape Cod, PM me. Will do Poly, I have a good memory! Does this mean you can have Leo now????
Author polywog Posted June 5, 2007 Author Posted June 5, 2007 Congrats Poly... on the new home... I'm sure you will fill it with lots of new memories...:bunny: BTW.. why no invite...... Hey if I start driving now... I might make it.. for the weekend.. But I'll need better directions than "east of the Mississippi"... Consider yourself invited:love:.... and make sure the exW sees this post! Anyhow, I can't move in until late August or early September... but the swimming is still good, and there is luminescent plankton that is fun to skinny dip in!!! Glowing bits of it sticks to you as thrash around in the ocean.... Geez, I am getting a little out of control here... but hey....
Author polywog Posted June 5, 2007 Author Posted June 5, 2007 Will do Poly, I have a good memory! Does this mean you can have Leo now???? I will find a way to have Leo... rumor is there is a "no pet" policy, but I plan to reverse that, and have confidence that I can. Anyway, I'll have Leo and my old cat Sneaky there one way or another, as I am a militant scofflaw when it comes to pets. Anyhow, MJ, seriously, you are Invited if you want to come down this way. Just PM me.
RecordProducer Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 Poly, things like this give life a sweet taste! I am sooooooo, so, so, so, so freaggin' happy for ya! :bunny: I mean, you got out as a winner; you felt homeless just a month ago and now you have a fancy, expensive apartment. Now is this good news or what? Life has an amazing way to give you a hand when you most need it. (and to kick you in the ribs when you least need it! )
