BohemeRose Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 I've searched high and low for help on this (without springing for a lawyer just yet, of course) and since I've recieved some pretty great advice from the lot of you on this site so far, I figured why not give it a shot here? It's not LDR advice I need so much as advice on how to not make it an LDR anymore, asap. I live in New Jersey and my boyfriend lives in Ontario. We've been together over a year and a half now, and it's been long decided that I would move up there when I graduate college, which will be in January now. Well, we thought that I would be able to get a skilled worker's visa which would let me stay up in Canada legally and work. For various reasons, I'm not eligible anymore so now we're not sure how I can legally stay up there long enough (a year) until we can be considered common law partners and I can get a visa that way. We'd rather not get married just for the citizenship, but it's starting to look like that's the only way I can move up there in January. I heard that it was getting much, much harder to get a visa to live in Canada, but at the same time I had a guy on an airplane (going home to Toronto, this was on my last trip to go see the boyfriend) tell me that I should "just apply, because it's much easier than people think." Does anyone have any experience or insight on this kind of thing? Any tips or advice? I know it's a bit off-topic but with every day I grow more desperate. Thanks all!
