green-eyed beauty Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 I gained 10 pounds over the winter. I was going to the gym a lot, before I gained the 10 pounds, my routine included cardio and weights. However I hate weights, and now that it's nice out, I want to just walk. I have been walking for 3 miles a day, not strolling, definitely power walking. I mean, I really feel it afterwards. I noticed, combined with eating really healthily for the past 2 weeks, and walking at least 5 times a week for 3 miles, I have lost 4 of the 10 pounds I gained, yay! Is this enough to get fit and tone? I don't aspire to have a gym body, just lose the bit of pudge I gained and have toned legs.
Tony T Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 Walking is very good exercise. Understand you must burn 3500 calories for each pound you want to lose...in addition to the calories it takes you to live. If you require 1500 calories per day to maintain your current weight and you take in 1500 calories each day, then you can lose one pound if you burn an additional 200 calories per day over 17 or 18 days. Walking will certainly help you. Once you get to the weight you want and you don't feel properly toned, do some stretching, weights and other exercises to take care of that. It shouldn't take long. There are a LOT of people who would love to have only eight pounds to lose. MANY people have 50 to 100 pounds to shed....that would require walking around the planet at warp speed something like several times a week!!! (haha)
Green Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 speed walking is a great excersise. But as long as your walking your fastest you emphasis shouldnt be on how far your walking realy its how long, you should do your arobic excersise atleast 4 times a week for atleast 30minutes at about 150pulse rate depending on how old you are. If you do weight train it would really help you lose the weight and keep it off having extra muscle will make your body autimaticaly burn more calories each day.
Lizzie60 Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 but I like to walk... When I quit smoking in 1993.. I gained 16 lbs...then I started walking 3 times a week (one hour each time)... normal walk, not speed walking... In about a year and a half I lost 20 lbs... Of course you also have to watch what you're eating... I never believed in dieting..so I just eat anything I want, just smaller portions... It is quite simple...really.
Green Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 a good way to eat smaller portions is to force yourself to have atleast 4-6 meals a day. Always eat breackfast and try to make your meals earlier in the day the bigger ones. dont eat anything 4 to 3 hours before going to sleep no matter how hungry you get, just be sure your eating during the day. avoid foods with High fructose corn syrup at all costs
hardcase Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 If you really want to burn the fat.....jump rope for 20 minutes a day.
