I got a poem and a letter from one of my sons and my other son wrote a short book for me (they are 8 years old).

Here's the poem:

Mom, you are the best!

Oh, I love you!

The best out of a thousand!

Happy Mother's Day!

Everything is you.

Really, you are the best.

The teacher just told them to write a poem in which every verse starts with the letters of the word "mother." He says nobody helped him with the poem (my kids never lie). :) And he drew something for me: a cute, colorful fish surrounded with three sharks who are trying to get her with their mouths open wide. Hm... interesting symbolics!

The other son wrote me a book named "Ten things I love about my mother." (the teacher gave them the title)

"You make dinner for me every night.

You always stay close to me.

You always take care of me.

You always help me with my homework.

You give me medicine when I am sick.

You take me places whenever I want.

You always buy me toys.

You read books to me whenever I ask.

You always buy me whatever I want for my birthday.

We get to spend time together.

Those are the ten reasons why I love you, mom. You're the best."

The pages of the book were accompanied by his drawings. :)

Other than that, I didn't get anything else. I gave my MIL two cards and I sent my mom a big present and a CD with my song "Mamma" recorded in English and dedicated to her. In my former country, we don't celebrate Mother's Day so I didn't expect anything from my parents.

Unfortunately, my wife didn't get anything from her daughters. However, from me she received a book I think she'll really enjoy, two pairs of earrings to compliment two necklaces I've previously given her (one pair was a replacement for a pair she lost one of years ago. I've been looking for the replacements ever since and finally found them), brunch on Mother's Day, a new kitten (something she decided awhile ago she wanted since our cat's getting older), I took her to a play on it's last performance after a six-year run -- The Vagina Monologues (I was one of very few men in the audience) and then made her the dinner of her choice that evening -- Peking and mu shoo duck!

She seemed to enjoy and appreciate all of it.

Those poems are adorable, RP. I'm sure you'll cherish them.

I got cards from H and from son and two different kinds of chocolates from my son. One of them made me think of AC because it's those Dove chocolates he always talks about on here. I haven't tried them yet. The other kind of chocolates have some kind of vanilla filling.

H got me something I've wanted for awhile now. It's a combination canner/pressure cooker. I can't wait to use it. I plan on canning a lot of my veggies from our garden and I've always wanted to try cooking with a pressure cooker.

My stepson called to wish me a Happy Mother's Day but couldn't come as he was working.:(

My daughter wrote a very sweet essay for a Mother's Day essay contest in our town, and gave me a big bag of Bath and Body Works stuff that she picked out, and stbxH took me, his mother, and our daughter out to dinner. All said, it was a great day. :)

Curmudgeon, you sound like a great husband :mad::( ... I mean :) :) .

Touche, as always you're lucky, and I hope you're blessed with the same happiness always. :)

Lucrezia, your daughter sounds very sweet, jus like my kids... so how is your love life going now? Are you married, divorced?

This thread is so sweet! Good for all of you.

RP, we don't celebrate Mother's Day back home, either (although it's becoming more popular now, pop culture and all. And because Hallmark needs to sell more cards).

This reminds me of the gifts my brother and I used to make for our parents' birthdays, when we were kids. They were such silly little baubles...paper mermaids, swans... And we used to buy cards and write stuff with uneven lettering all over...so the original message of the card was always overshadowed.

So much fun. :)

By the way, I've seen that Mother's Day over here usually gets prominence and more sentiments than Father's Day. I wonder why?

It looks like there were some really nice things done for LS Mothers yesterday.

My cat gave me nothing. He just kept meowing at me for treats. Ingrate. :(

I'd pull the cat's ears. Lovingly, of course.

This year was really sweet, my mother got me one of those necklaces where the diamonds make a heart pattern and it comes apart, one half is for me and the other is for me to give to the daughter I am pregnant with right now.

I love it, its just beautiful and I'll wear my half on a chain my mother gave me. It also inspired my husband to finally pay up with the other half of the dowry (I told him to not bother with it back when we got married because we had no money and it really wasent that inportant to me anyway) but he decided to get me and the baby matching bracelets.

I just love jewlry but only stuff that means something special. My family knows me well.

(In my country its common for mothers to give their daughters things, and for anyone that is a mother to congratulate eachother in some way)

You mean, he didn't catch a mouse just for you? Some cats do that to impress their masters... like "Here, this is for you, eat it!"

I was mean. I didn't give him treats until he did some cute tricks.

Sometimes he catches huge moths when he's allowed out on my upstairs patio. He leaves them right in front of my bedroom door.

I envy you with the moths, my cat brings me lizards, first the detached tail, then the barely moveing rest of the lizard. He never kills them just disables them and layes them out in front of me.

That is pretty rude.

Your cat must love you a lot. ;)

I had the most incredibly wonderful Mother's Day since I can remember. There just wasn't any moment that wasn't perfectly enjoyable. I woke to a call from my neice who I helped raise as a young child to say I love you and happy mother's day. My H and S had my breakfast and coffee ready. When I came into my study there was a note on the computer to check my drawer. There was a pathetically wrapped  shoe box that was the brand of shoe I had seen in this resort we visited several weeks ago and raved about. He asked me when we got back if I had picked them up and I said that I imagined that they were a little pricey. Well, I opened the box and they were the wrong shoe. H and son got in the car and drove and hour each way to exchange them, insisted on it! How sweet is that! And these shoes are sooo soo very cute!

While they were gone, I found a pasta necklace and a poem written by my 19 yo D. It was about the things that I had taught her to do like walk in heels, and make jewelry out of things found in the pantry ect... It was a real tear jerker!!! She showed up later with a GC for a pedicure!

I got to choose the activity for the afternoon so we put the boat in the water and went tubing! We were going to see a movie in the evening but the back porch was way too comfy and my H makes a mean margarita! We had take out for dinner and got to bed "early"! It was truly an beautiful day, full of contentment and everyone went out of their way to make it so special!

Monday morning, back to reality, I flooded the laundry room and spent the entire day cleaning up my mess! It was great while it lasted though!

Ifwisheswerehorses, I am glad you enjoyed Sunday. :) LaughMachine, that's a cute present for a mom. :)

I told my sons on Mother's Day that they had to do everything I said on that day. They said "But you'll have to do everything WE say on Father's Day." I said "Really? Are you my fathers? :D There is no Son's Day, cuz every day is sons' day!"
