Shadowdog36 Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 This morning around 3 am, my dog of 9 years, Shadow, died. :( As anyone who knew him would have told you, he was the most amazing dog that anyone has ever met. Smart, kind, gentle, playful, attentive, and loyal. I woke up yesterday and he was having difficulty breathing. I took him to the vet, and after a series of x-rays, was referred to a specialist. Nearly $2000 later, and all day shuffling the dog around, I was told to take him home and he would be fine, just monitor his food and water intake over the next few days. Last night, he could barely keep his head up, and as I lay on the floor in the kitchen with him, we just lay there, staring at each other. This animal was my family, and a large part of my life revolved around him. He was with me through so many life changes over the past 9 years, and I miss him already. Given what has just happened, and what happened recently with that girl finding out who I was on here, I think it's best to retire this screen name. I sincerely appreciate the concern and compassion that I've found here, and I will do my best, under any name, to pass that compassion along to those in need that come here, looking for the support that I did a few months ago.
johan Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 It must have been hard to be there through the end. But I know that it's better than not being there. I'm sorry for your loss. That's tough.
randuff Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 I just lost a cat that I had for 17 years the week of my break up from my fiance'. Times are hard but we can pull through this with the support of one another.
Trialbyfire Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 Sorry to hear about your loss. Dogs bring such unconditional love and friendship into people's lives.
Star Gazer Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 I'm so very, very sorry for your loss. :( :( Prayers for Shadow in Doggie Heaven...
quankanne Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 am sorry for your loss, SD ... dogs are great teachers of unconditional love. though yours also looked as if he was skeptical of certain things, too, with that look on his face
polywog Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 The picture of your dear, beautiful, soulful dog in your avatar melted my heart, and your sad news makes me cry. There's not much I can say to console you, I know, but I'm sending my favorite dog (and pet) tribute poem of all time: The Housedog's Grave I've changed my ways a little, I can no longer run with you in the evenings along the shore, except in a kind of dream, and you, if you dream a little you see me there. So leave a while the paw marks on the front door, Where I used to scratch to come in or go out, and you'd soon answer, leave on the kitchen floor the marks of my drinking pan. I cannot lie by your fire all evening On the warm stone, nor yet at the foot of your bed no, all the night through, I lie alone. But your kind thought has laid me less than 6 feet outside your window, where firelight so often plays, and where you sit to read, and, I fear, often grieving for me-- every night your lamplight lies on my place. You, Man and Woman, live so long, it is hard to think of you ever dying! A little dog would get tired, living so long. I hope that when you are lying under the ground like me, your lives will appear as good and joyful as mine. No, dears, that's too much hope... you have not been as well cared for as I have been, And never knew the passionate, undivided fidelities I knew. Your minds are perhaps too active, too many sided, but to me you were true. You were never Masters, but Friends. I was your Friend. Deep love endures to the end and long past the end... If this is my end, I am not lonely. I am not afraid. I am still yours. Robinson Jeffers Hope you'll feel OK about your dear Shadow soon, and my condolences...I Love my pets, and their deaths have been tough for me, so I understand.
whichwayisup Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 I'm sorry for your loss, my heart goes out to you. I completely understand how you feel, losing a pet is like losing a family member.
Teacher's Pet Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 Shadow, As someone who just lost a pet as well, my heart goes out to you. Sometimes it's easy to forget that a dog or a cat is more than just an animal... they are a friend, companion, and family member. It's such a shame that they live such a short life. -tp j'taime, mi petite chat.
Storyrider Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 It sounds like he was a wonderful dog. So sorry to hear he's gone.
Guest Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 It's ShaodwDog36, and I just wanted to say...from the bottom of my heart how much I apreciate all of the wonderful sentiments that I heard from you all on here. I know that I have a tendancy to speak from the gut from time to time, and I know that I can be abbrasive, but I love the fact that I could, for a while, come here and let it all out. Thank you to the people that started this, and thank you to all of you that keep it going. You all have restored, for a while, my faith in humanity.
