VinaAmez Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 I'm one of them too. My sizes sell out quick. That's why I normally buy more then one pair or item.
Author hope1975 Posted May 16, 2007 Author Posted May 16, 2007 I'm one too...all the clothes in my size sell out so quick that if I do manage to find something in my size that I like, I hang onto it forever

LoveLace Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 I don't think that either men or women place more importance on looks. I think it goes by the individual. I can't believe the statement from the groom that said "I never thought I'd marry someone that hot", when asked why he loved her enough to marry her? Anyhow, that man in particular obviously places a LOT of importance on looks. But most of the time, people looks change drastically of course, with age. The person you marry can be a total hottie in your eyes, but end up gaining 100 lbs. or something to make them suddenly seem not attractive at all. Of course visually, I might enjoy tall, dark-haired men more than the others. But the guy I'm currently in love with is neither of those things...he's just cute. In fact, he's almost bald! I would like to think that men are just as flexible. Initially, they might place more importance on looks, but I think they know it really means nothing in the long run. There should be attraction there...but I think as people mature, we realize that having specific standards for looks is pointless in the end.

mrmaximum Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 If ya'll don't mind. What is the average size for a woman in North America? The media would like us to think it's something horribly small but I don't really buy that. What size, 8, 10, 12?

Chrome Barracuda Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 I dont know why dudes be complaining about being bald, it's not the end of the world. I myself dont see me having any problems getting women even if bald. No combovers please. but why are we still talking about big or skinny girls? I think the majorty of most men dont like fat girls but they have no problem sticking them behind closed doors. they afraid their friends might chestize them if they did. I myself dont give a flying F! What kind of man has friends gig on him about going put with a bigger woman?
LucreziaBorgia Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 From most of what I've read, the average size is size 14. Roughly 5-5, and 145-150 pounds. Tell that to the fashion and entertainment industry though. In that fantasy world, the average woman is a size 6 (which is considered on the chunky side). I would expect that the definition of 'curvy' for women is something more along the lines of reality, while the definition of 'curvy' for men is more along the lines of what you see in fantasy land.
pyroguy Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 I also think women think the media speaks for men, Actually, many men like the average or as someone said, the "in between" look. Sure, some or many of the models look good, but so does the "in between" and curvy girls-even with a little extra padding. This is especially true of girls with pretty faces, which is very overlooked in my opinion. Although, a lot of guys I know feel the same. We love a girl with a beautiful face and nice hair and eyes. Many times that trumps other things-physically. In fact, many times, its what I find myself staring at repeatedly-the face, lips, and eyes. When they have that and a general good figure, the breast size means almost nothing-but that's just me.
Pink Amulet Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 I agree pyroguy. It is nice to put this perspective in to the equation. Bodies are subjective, but a face can radiate a persons beauty more than anything else.

Author hope1975 Posted May 17, 2007 Author Posted May 17, 2007 I've got nothing against baldness...the guy i'm interested in is nearly bald but I still think he's hot

I believe you are correct with the average size being a 14. In the fashion and entertainment industry though, size 6 is pushing it. I do believe the average size for them is now a 4. That is damn sad considering I am a size 6 and I think I am bordering too thin.
allina Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 I believe you are correct with the average size being a 14. The average size woman being a size 14 and 150 lbs is a little off. Consider what the meaning of 'average' is. There are women who are overweight by 100lbs but none that are underweight by 100lbs so when you average things out 150lbs is a little high. I was thinking about this yesterday at the gym actually. While spacing out and looking round I noticed that the 'largest' person at my gym was no more than 10 lbs overweight. Since the health/fitness craze started in the US I think the country has slimmed down a lot. At least here in the Bay Area, CA you don't see too many FAT people.
Author hope1975 Posted May 17, 2007 Author Posted May 17, 2007 It worries me that young girls think they have to be a size 0...my daughter is a teenager & is quite tall, & even though she only weighed 100lbs, kids at school used to call her fat which was crazy!! I think she looked too thin...her spine stuck out & so did her collarbones... She wanted to do modelling & I took her to a reputable agency who wanted to sign her straight away...she was booked in for a shoot, and in that week she constantly worried about her weight...wanted to lose 10lbs, wouldn't eat & excersised like crazy..I ended up not taking her to the photo shoot, and put her into something else she wanted to do. I had my daughter at a young age (i'm only 30) and she is really comfortable coming to me with any issues she has, but I'm sure that there are girls out there (teenagers especially..14,15,16 like my daughter) that see these size 0 girls in magazines & want to be just like them, so they stop eating, and start obsessing about their weight, and suffer in silence..I'm lucky my daughter opened up to me, and we were able to deal with the issue...she has put a bit of weight on now & her bones don't stick out anymore..and I actually think she's got a pretty perfect figure (of course i'm biased though ) she weighs about 115lbs now, but most importantly, she's happy within herself. Young girls like my daughter should be having fun & not worrying about their weight...I think people can look great at all sizes, as long as your healthy & happy & take care of yourself.
tanbark813 Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 At least here in the Bay Area, CA you don't see too many FAT people. Pfffffffftt... You obviously haven't tried searching for chicks on match.

Trialbyfire Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Here's a link to the Centers for Disease Control government site about average weights and heights for Americans. http://www.cdc.gov/od/oc/media/pressrel/r041027.htm The article is dated Oct. 27, 2004 and was done as at 2002. In 2002, the average woman was 5'4" tall and the average weight was 164.3 lbs. Definitely not a size 6... In 2002, the average man was 5'9.5" tall and the average weight was 191 lbs.

And that is truly scary. I have to admit that I used to think like this, but over time, I changed my ways. To go after glamour at the expense of your health is well, foolish doesn't begin to cover it, yeah? I remember that there was an epose' on Jennifer Aniston on the E! channel a few months ago. Jennifer Aniston who is by all intents and purposes VERY thin was STILL under pressure to lose more weight!! There are times that I feel for young women in this day and age. I remember seeing a video featuring the Pussy Cat Dolls. Good Lord that lead singer looks positively annorexic!! Then I remembered that the camera ADDS 10 POUNDS!!! That can't be healthy. These are women's heroes right? They see them and see that guys think this is hot so....to be hot you have to be wafer thin. I still can't get over the fact that Marylin Monroe, the quintiessential (sp?) icon of beauty for her time, would be considered FAT today. Whoa, how times have changed.
Pink Amulet Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Marylin carried her weight well though. Not an ideal image of "what was once considered beautiful", as I believe her looks would still translate very well today.
LucreziaBorgia Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Yup, Marilyn's weight fluctuated wildly with her depression, drug use and pregnancy(ies?) but she found a way to work that to her advantage. In her heaviest times, she was able to dress in such a way as to hide her flaws while playing up her assets. She had a marshmallowy quality to her body - soft and round, with a healthy but high range BMI. Audrey Hepburn would be more of the 'thin' type woman, who had few or no curves, but was no less beautiful. I expect she had a very low BMI. I would expect that for a lot of men, 'curvy' includes: flat stomach, pert (not sagging) breasts, a firm round (not droopy) ass, etc. Basically your average underweight girl who happens to have rounded (but without an ounce of fat) breasts and hips. Basically, take Marilyn's curves and put them on Audrey's frame. Low BMI, but rounded in the right areas.

However, there are guys out there who do not put so much thought into a girls body. I appreciate my boyfriend greatly because he absolutely loves my body no matter what. I have cellulite under my butt cheeks, so what. My generous size boobs arent as perky, so what. Im getting softer around the middle, so what! He has loved me through all the changes. In fact for a while I was sick and didnt know it and lost 15 pounds. He was very concerned and sat me down one day and told me that he loved me but that I needed to gain weight because I looked terrible. That is a real man right there.
Author hope1975 Posted May 19, 2007 Author Posted May 19, 2007 I'd love to meet someone that didn't care what size I was, or how I looked I like to take care of myself & go to the gym etc, but there are certain times when I just wanna curl up on the couch & watch dvd's & eat chocolate It's really surprising to think that marilyn monroe would be considered fat by today's standards, she was so beautiful & sexy...what size was she 12? 14? 16? I'm not sure?
daveo999 Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 ha ha, ho ho ho. What a complex question. You are right, thin and curvy means different things to different people, also height and build also reflects differences in a person also. I personally like curvy !! but not fat, also a larger girl can also be curvy and not fat as they may have a naturally larger frame. I tend to think that an average fit and healthy lady is a nice shape. A Thin Girl to the extreme could be a small frame, with very little muscle on the frame, very lean and straight up and down. To me this is thin, with no bulk eg muscle, someone who just diets and have no muscle tone or even muscle who are just trying to get as light as possible. A curvy girl to me is someone who is relatively fit and healthy, someone who could have a small, medium or large frame, with average muscle tone provide an average shape torso providing a shapely figure of muscle on the bone. Dont particularly have to be lean lean as large build lady can carry more weight, but not so much fat on the body that would cause flesh to hang or sag. Now to you readers god knows how that sounds to you all, but thin isnt for me. Would be nice to see some response to my description but please be kind as i have no idea how that might sound to people.
