outofdarkness Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 Could someone please tell me how a pager works on a cell phone? I have no idea and would really like to know so that I'm not completely in the dark regarding this..Please, only serious, helpful replies..i don't really need to hear how I need to leave right now...Thanks.
Author outofdarkness Posted May 8, 2007 Author Posted May 8, 2007 ok. you all...There's gotta be someone out there who can fill me in alittle on this subject..If there was a techie forum, I'd go there...Anyone?
Sheba Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 I don't like to answer when most of my answer is "I am not sure" and "I don't know, but". However, I will give it a shot. I think being able to use a cell phone like a pager is an option you have to set up on the account. So you could call the service provider and ask if they can set up that option. I know that sometimes I call cell numbers and there is an option for me to key in a "call back" number so the person I am calling can return my call. Maybe this is what you are after? Are you thinking of text messaging, perhaps? I recently learned that I can receive text messages on my cell. Since I am over 40 this is an option that I did not consider using. However, despite that I did nothing to "set up" the service, I apparently have it as I have received some messages that are signalled by a funny ring, different than my regular ring. If none of the above helps, maybe someone else will notice your question who can be more helpful.

However, I am not very savvy re: cell phone and pagers..Thanks..
yousaveme Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 I think your thinking more on the lines of a text message. Can text someone using IM or even the carriers site. And you wouldnt have to use a callback number
Author outofdarkness Posted May 8, 2007 Author Posted May 8, 2007 I think your thinking more on the lines of a text message. Can text someone using IM or even the carriers site. And you wouldnt have to use a callback number No, I know about texts..This was in incoming or outgoing or mabey both, I can't remember, calls...Just the NUMERALS 469..that's it..no phrases, ect..I think it's some sort of code or something..
dropdeadlegs Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 I wasn't sure of how it worked, but knew I would get that option once a call went to voice mail. I called my daughters phone and we waited while my call went to voice mail and gave me the option "to page this person, press 5" which I did. The voice mail system then said, "your call back number is XXX-XXX-XXXX to send this number press 1, to change it press 2." I chose option 1. My daughters phone then rang like a text message was received and all that was in the text was my phone number. Next I called again, chose option 2 and used the number 469. Again, he phone rang like a text message was received and the text showed "469." The number the message originated from was something like 010000000. It was meaningless. I think it could be a code. I am particularly suspicious of the digits chosen. 469 could be symbolic for "for 69", meaning for the sexual act. Paging allows for a callback number to be used versus an actual voice message. The actual call does not show up in the missed calls log nor the received calls log, but the number entered as the callback number to call back from the page does show up in the text message inbox. I hope this helps to answer your questions. We use Cingular (the new AT&T)

Art_Critic Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 2 possibilities come to my mind.. one bad the other not.. My bet is that 469 is either the prefix or the last 3 digits of a number that is already known to the caller.. That way the whole number isn't given out and they would know who to call.. It also could be a phone extension as well.. maybe someone from his worked called him.. I know at our work we sometimes page our salespeople with just the extension of who to call back..

Thanks for the info..The first possibility looks plausible, the second does not simply b/c he's had the same cell # since he started using a cell....Years?..Idk, but I doubt very seriously that this is someone from work since it would be the first time ever that someone's # appeared on his cell this way. Thanks again...
Author outofdarkness Posted May 11, 2007 Author Posted May 11, 2007 ok..but what if the person just wants to send this as a code known only to the person receiving it? Then the caller/pager would not enter a call back # right?

dropdeadlegs Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 ok..but what if the person just wants to send this as a code known only to the person receiving it? Then the caller/pager would not enter a call back # right? I'm inclined to think it IS a code assuming it's not an extension as A_C mentioned. As I said, you get a choice to allow the automated system to send the number you are calling from (known through caller ID which virtually every phone plan has) or choose any other number. If you get a choice to send your already identified number or to CHANGE that to another number, why go through the extra steps? Most people don't like automated systems very much and would go with the easiest option. UNLESS it is a work number with many employees and an operator would not know who had paged you. OR you prefer to be called back on a cell phone because you are going out, but made the call from a land line. I'm VERY suspicious of the particular digits, as I stated before. Why THOSE three digits? Why not one digit, or two? I'm not a private detective and don't know enough about your particular situation, but the 469 really jumped out at me.

Yeah, me too..but only after you all pointed it out to me..I could be one of the former...or current..idk..OW's messing w/ me..There is one in particular that loves to mess w/ me and do anything possible to get under my skin..In fact..I just thought today that I might start a thread about OW's who seem to have great disdain and hate for the BW..not in the sense that she is the wife, but as a person...Most OW's that I know on LS don't seem to feel one way or the other about the W, or mabey it's that she's pathetic, not giving something she should be to the M, etc..but I see very few who are down right mean to the BW either behind her back or in on the phone, etc...I guess it has much to do w/ the OW's personality and what the mm has told her about the W...Anyway, thanks for the continued input...
2sunny Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 I think it could be a code. I am particularly suspicious of the digits chosen. 469 could be symbolic for "for 69", meaning for the sexual act. The actual call does not show up in the missed calls log nor the received calls log for 69 is what i immediately thought of... she's asking him to come over for sex. maybe the reason why you can't pin him down on what he actually is doing with OW is because they use this system now. makes sense since there is no trail - so to speak. it may be showing on his cell bill under data use though - and sometimes does not show on the online bill unless you ask to specifically view the data info.
Limerent Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 469 could also be a room number for a hotel. Maybe they frequent a particular hotel, and instead of risking talking at all via phone, she pages him the room numbers when she rents, signaling that she is ready, and he knows she will be there waiting.

Limerent Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 good input.... but it may also be her address... who knows, probably not though? a PI would be in order at this point because he is covering up - BIG TIME! I was thinking that perhaps they had seen each other in the day, and mentioned something about getting a room at a specific hotel, and later on, she paged him with the room number. I havent been following her story very closely so I dont know the full scoop..not sure what else is going on....I have to check up on that...
Author outofdarkness Posted May 19, 2007 Author Posted May 19, 2007 Just wondering if anyone knew right off what those three numbers mean, if anything in the OW/MM world..Should have simplified it...Thanks for the input.
Author outofdarkness Posted May 19, 2007 Author Posted May 19, 2007 Ok..I think I figured it out...There was a page on his blackberry this morning that says pagegate, when I open it it gives a number and an ext. then a v mailbox # with the e mail at his co...It says: from pagegate@his comp email. then when I open it, it says "please call --- --- ---- vmail box#----. I have never seen this on his blackberry before..I googled it and it says page gate is a service whereby one can sms or text from any phone:confused:, etc...It was sent at 6:30 last night...off business hours on a fri. night..Also, does a text alert show as the little voice mail envelope on a cell phone..There is a v mail env. symb on his cell this morn and when I tried to check it, it said it was empty. Any input on this particular subject is appreciated..Please, no analysis on my current situation or M...Thanks!
