When you have got everything into perspective, you know what went wrong, you're moving on and accepting it, why do the sentimental memories still hurt?

It seems the thing that is on my mind most is the good times. Certain memories and such. They really throw me into despair.

The rest of it I understood straight away. I left my ex, but I miss her terribly. Thats the bit I hate. Knowing I'll never see her again despite sharing the best moments of my life with her. It almost seems unreal that physically, she is no longer there. It is like a death.

That's just part of the grief of a relationship ending, and it's inevitable. I have left lovers and been left, and while the latter is initially worse, I've always mourned the end of every relationship in the way you're describing. After the grieving ends (and it does) the good memories won't hurt so much.
