OCCDAVE Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 Ok i have been dating this girl who's a single mother of two kids for six months now.We agreed last night that it's about time i meet the kids sometime next week at her son's birthday .Her son is turning 4 and her daughter is 2 incase you were wondering.Ok i'm nervous what if the kids don't like me she says as long as they see her happy then they are ok with it.That may be the case but in the back of the mind it will always be the fact they are not your kids. She has said i'm the only guy other then the kids dad who was a dead beat who she has wanted to share the kids with.I really love this girl and want this to work but any advice dating single mothers.Another thing i'm worried about say her son makes a mess and i said that's not good don't do that she may say well he's not yours ill handle him.So as you can see i'm really confused here cause i want this to work but dunno.
brandie32 Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 I lost my dad when I was 3 so I think I can give you some advise from another side. Never ever unless the child is in immediate danger disaplin or scold the children. You should tell the mom quietly and let her handle the situation. I never minded my mom dating in fact I enjoyed seeing my mom happy. And as long as you remain laid back and friendly not tring to be something you are not. The children should not feel threatned by you and more excepting of your relationship. Just be a friend, have fun, and follow the children's lead. Good Luck you should have fun, and this is a great step you are making with your girlfriend.
sweetbutcheeky Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 If they do anything wrong don't worry about it, just let their mum handle it or say would your mom let you do that? Let her deal with that kinda thing since it's your first visit. Kids no matter the age are smart, so don't worry about not being able to relate with them. Let them come to you, play with them with whatever they want to share with you. Get down on their level, sit on the floor or on your knees.
