okay, I'm a little confused so heres my question:

 

When someone says the phrases "oh we dated when I was in college" or "its someone I once dated", do you automatically assume that there was sex involved, heavy petting, or just friendly dating?

 

What is implicitly assumed when someone says "i once dated him/her"?

Who cares!?!? Why would you even waste your time thinking about that? Everyone has a past. Almost every adult has a sexual past. Sounds like you're being a little possesive/jealous. So, who cares?? Do you REALLY want to know the details? Is it REALLY any of your business? Don't be a dork. Focus on now and the future. The rest is in the past.

This is how I break it down:

 

I've dated women that I have had sex with.

I've gone out with girls that I have not had sex with.

 

When I was young then yes dating can mean no sex.. but as you get older you realize that people lose the hangups they have about sex and dating means sex.

Dating will mean different things to different people. I use the term in the sense that I've gone on multiple dates with that person. Sex didn't necessarily occur.

 

What is the context of this question? Are you dating someone and are concerned that they are hanging out with someone they dated? A simple "how long did you guys date?" can shed light on that.
