Its been 8 months since my ex dumped me and we have had very little contact in that time.(Hes away on placement for a year.)It was my birthday a few days ago and i got a text off his mum asking my door number.

On the day of my birthday i received a card off his mum and dad and family saying i was a very special person and that they hoped i had a really lovely day which i thought was nice.

Then i opened another card and it was from my ex saying he hoped i had an amazing day and that he was sorry he couldnt deliver it personally as he couldnt make it home. He had already sent a text on the morning saying happy birthday.

I know i shouldnt have but i sent him a text saying he didnt have to send it but thankyou anyway. He then sent me 1 back saying i deserved it and he hoped i had a really good time,i never replied to that.

Im 1 of the lucky 1s and moving on with my life but why oh why do exs do this.If this had happened a few months ago i may have read too much into it and maybe gotten my hopes up.

I know there are people here who are still heartbroken over being dumped and very vunerable, thats why n/c is so important.I just think if you have dumped some1 then please leave your ex alone to come to terms with it,you are doing them no favours by contacting them. What do others think ?

I think when it comes to birthdays sending a birthday greeting is acceptable. I still send my exes that were a significant part of my life a birthday greeting.
