frd150 Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 I have been reading alot of posts here on ls and it seems that 2 1/2 years seems to be the breaking point in alot of relationships. Is there any reason for this or is it just a coincidence. Anyone have any insight as to why? It was at 2 1/2 years for me.
honeybees28 Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 it was 2.5-3 for me as well. very odd. i didnt realize it happened a lot? maybe its because its to the point where the dumper starts thinking about marriage and gets freaked out and dodges..
JCB Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Aye, I broke up with my ex after two years and five months... we started going out around the age of 18 and ended before we were 21, so guess it's a turbulent age anyways!

In my case we were both thinking about marrige but she was thinking the holidays(i later realized) and i was going to ask her on her b day which is coming up.
jusified Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 scientific research shows that the initial hormone endophanes wear off at around the 2 year mark. I am not makingthis up, basially the happy and can't live without you feeling is a masking agent (endophane hormones) release by the brain to tell ou your partner is really great blah blah. This however stops around about 2 years. Now of course, I believe there are alot of times where people need to make a concious effrt to love and support someone, be committed through the tough times etc. But of cause this isn't the case alot of the times hence the break ups at around 2-2.5 years
Guest Y Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 2.5 yrs for me as well. Justified can you post some of the research? I found that very interesting and would love to read up on it.

Heartache11 Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 I'll add in to the 2 1/2 year tally. We are pretty young too though.
TheBigQuestion Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 You can add me to this list as well. My relationship just ended at 2 years and 9 months.
jusified Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 I couldn't find the exact source guys. But I watched it on the news and some newspaper articles. On wikipedia if you look up love there is a little sentence about neurology and the source comes from some book. I'mnot making this up, the fact is between 2-3 years is a vital stage of a relationship. Alot of ppl break up during this perioddue to loss of interest. To be honest I think ppl give up to easy and isn't mature enough to make the committment.
