sumdude Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 So I'm a musician and music lover. I find a lot of solace there so I'd though I would start a thread for music that helped people out in a bad time. Damn if I'm not doing a lot of writing now. Who knows if an album will come out of all this for me. Counting Crows - Recovering the Satellites A complete breakup album. Has all the emotions, anger, sadness, letting go, getting out on your own again. Bob Marley - Kaya This one has helped me hold on, a couple tunes in particular. She's Gone Running Away Time will Tell
Gunny376 Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 Ray Charles "Chlid Support and Alimony" album, pretty much covers the gaulet of divorce, to include un-conditional love, to child support and alimony woes, to the perils of getting involved with someone too quickly that you don't know that well, ("Where's The Stairs" ~ LOL!) Jerry's Reeds "She Got The Gold Mine, I Got The Shaft" Roy Clark's "Thank God And Greyhound She's Gone" Can't recall the exact title, but the one by .38 Special that has the lyrics about his SO leaving him and he says, "I don't know if I'm going to die laughing or crying?" I highly DON'T recommend anything by George Jones~! You get to listenting to that $%%#% , and drinking and its going to be just enough to send you over the edge! Ditto with a lot of Keith Whitney matertial. Skip Ewing has a good album with "Healing Fire" Generally speaking ~ I'd stay away from the country stuff ~ like I said some of its enough to send you right over the edge. To this day, I can't listen to "When I Call Your Name" that one gets me everytime.
whichwayisup Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 I know she isn't back, but what about Elton John's the Bitch is back.

Author sumdude Posted April 17, 2007 Author Posted April 17, 2007 Here's another Steely Dan - Reelin in the Years (gunny & I agreed on this one) " you wouldn't even know a diamond if you held it in your hand, the things you think are precious I can't understand "
stubbornbutnice Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 Maroon 5 "Makes me wonder" The CD isn't out yet but you can listen online... very good... makes you angry and sad at the same time. I completely identify with it.
hurting_in_nw Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 If you want a boost of hardcore energy and some great lyrics about respect, self-confidence, and inner strength (I'm lookin' at you El-Producto), I recommend Pantera's "Vulgar Display of Power." If you want to get down and out and feel sorry for yourself (although it hasn't really had that effect on me), Beck's "Sea Change" is one of the best breakup albums ever.
Author sumdude Posted April 19, 2007 Author Posted April 19, 2007 Here's one for the healing ~ Don Henley - The Heart of the Matter " I'm learning to live without you now But I miss you sometimes The more I know, the less I understand All the things I thought I knew, I'm learning again I've been tryin' to get down to the heart of the matter But my will gets weak And my thoughts seem to scatter But I think it's about forgiveness Forgiveness Even if, even if you don't love me anymore "
Very_Confused Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 You Win, I Win, We Lose - Kenny Chesney Nothing left, no regrets No hard feelings wish you all the best No blame, no shame Just time to say it's over I guess We both agree it's the right thing The only thing left to do You win, I win, we lose Sometimes love don't work out No matter how hard you try Lord knows we didn't start out to say goodbye If it's a win-win situation Then why am I feelin' so blue You win, I win, we lose You take yours, I'll take mine We'll leave nothing but the memories behind Of a love, and a dream That just somehow faded with time You say you're goin' your way I'm goin' somewhere too You win, I win, we lose Sometimes love don't work out No matter how hard you try Lord knows we didn't start out to say goodbye If it's a win-win situation Then why am I feelin' so blue You win, I win, we lose If it's a win-win situation Then why am I feelin' so blue You win, I win, we lose If you win, and I win, we lose We lose
Author sumdude Posted April 19, 2007 Author Posted April 19, 2007 OK, these were recopmmended by a freind, I'm not a big country fan but they tell the story. Wouldn't listen to 'em too much though Rascal Flatts What Hurts the Most I'm Movin' On
Very_Confused Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Others that might be appropriate in some cases (with just the chorus): We're Not Making Love Anymore - Michael Bolton & Patti Labelle "'Cause we're not making love anymore Baby, we're not making love like before We may hold each other tight Say that everything's alright But we're not making love" Right Here - Staind "But you always find a way to keep me right here waiting You always find the words to say to keep me right here waiting And if you chose to walk away I'd still be right here waiting Searching for the things to say to keep you right here waiting" What Hurts The Most - Rascal Flatts "What hurts the most Was being so close And having so much to say And watching you walk away And never knowing What could have been And not seeing that loving you Is what I was trying to do" So Sick Of Love Songs - Neo And I'm so sick of love songs So tired of tears So done with wishing you were still here Said I'm so sick of love songs so sad and slow So why can't I turn off the radio? You'll Think Of Me - Keith Urban "Take your records, take your freedom Take your memories, I dont need 'em Take your space and take your reasons But you'll think of me Take your cat and leave my sweater 'Cause we have nothing left to weather In fact I'll feel a whole lot better But you'll think of me, you'll think of me" Smile - Lonestar "I'm gonna smile 'Cause I want to make you happy Laugh, so you can't see me cry I'm gonna let you go in style And even if it kills me I'm gonna smile" Over - Chris Daughtry "I'm slowly getting closure. I guess it's really over. I'm finally getting better. And now I'm picking up the pieces. I'm spending all of these years Putting my heart back together. Well I'm putting my heart back together, 'Cause I got over you. Well I got over you. I got over you. 'Cause the day I thought I'd never get through, I got over you."

Missy27 Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Goodbye My Lover - James Blunt This one got me EVERY time: Did I dissapoint you, or let you down? Should I be feeling guilty or let the judges frown? 'Cause I saw the end before we'd begun, Yes I saw you were blinded and I knew I had won. So I took what's mine by eternal right Took your soul out into the night. It may be over, but it wont stop there I am here for you, if you'd only care You touched my heart, you touched my soul You changed my life and all my goals And love is blind and that i knew when, My heart was blinded by you. I've kissed your lips and held your head Shared your dreams and shared your bed I know you well, I know your smell I've been addicted to you Goodbye my lover Goodbye my friend You have been the one You have been the one for me I am a dreamer, but when I wake, You can't break my spirit - it's my dreams you take And as you move on, remember me Remember us, and all we used to be I've seen you cry, I've seen you smile I've watched you sleeping for a while I'd be the father of your child I'd spend a lifetime with you I know your fears and you know minbe We've had our doubts but now we're fine, And I love you, I swear that's true I cannot live without you Goodbye my lover, Goodbye my friend You Have been the one You have been the one for me And I still hold your hand in mine In mine when I'm asleep And I will bear my soul in time When I'm kneeling at your feet Goodbye my lover Goodbye my friend You have been the one You have been the one for me I SWEAR TO GOD, I HAVE A LUMP IN MY THROAT THINKING ABOUT THAT ONE NOW !!!!!
quiet1one1 Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 "Sky Blue and Black" ~Jackson Browne "The Lonely Suffer" ~Fleetwood Mac Someone said earlier "evey song on my Ipod" and I have to agree. For me, it seems like every song that comes up on random play lately is on-topic!
Author sumdude Posted May 17, 2007 Author Posted May 17, 2007 Ain't Wastin' Time No More by Gregg Allman © 1972 & 1974 by No Exit Music Co. Last Sunday morning, the sunshine felt like rain. Week before, they all seemed the same. With the help of God and true friends, I come to realize I still had two strong legs, and even wings to fly. And oh I, ain't wastin time no more 'Cause time goes by like hurricanes, and faster things. Lord, lord Miss Sally, why all your cryin'? Been around here three long days, you're lookin' like you're dyin'. Just step yourself outside, and look up at the stars above Go on downtown baby, find somebody to love. Meanwhile I ain't wastin' time no more 'Cause time goes by like pouring rain, and much faster things. You don't need no gypsy to tell you why You can't let one precious day slip by. Look inside yourself, and if you don't see what you want, Maybe sometimes then you don't, But leave your mind alone and just get high. Well by and by, way after many years have gone, And all the war freaks die off, leavin' us alone. We'll raise our children in the peaceful way we can, It's up to you and me brother To try and try again. Well, hear us now, we ain't wastin' time no more 'Cause time goes by like hurricanes Runnin' after subway trains Don't forget the pouring rain.

Star Gazer Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 I literally cry every time I hear this song - I can so identify with the emotion: John Mayer - "Dreaming with a Broken Heart" When you're dreaming with a broken heart The waking up is the hardest part You roll outta bed and down on your knees And for the moment you can hardly breathe Wondering was she really here? Is she standing in my room? No she's not, 'cause she's gone, gone, gone, gone, gone.... When you're dreaming with a broken heart The giving up is the hardest part She takes you in with your crying eyes Then all at once you have to say goodbye Wondering could you stay my love? Will you wake up by my side? No she can't, 'cause she's gone, gone, gone, gone, gone.... Oooooooooohhhhhhhhh Now do i have to fall asleep with roses in my hand Do i have to fall asleep with roses in my hand? Do i have to fall asleep with roses in my hand? Do i have to fall asleep with roses in my hand? Baby won't you get them if i did? No you won't, 'cause you're gone, gone, gone, gone, gone.... When you're dreaming with a broken heart The waking up is the hardest part
Mustang Sally Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Sheryl Crow Wildflowers (whole album, really) Especially "Always On Your Side" YMMV, of course.
amaysngrace Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 YMMV, of course. What's this mean? Lynyrd Skynyrd: Freebird
Mustang Sally Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 What's this mean? "Your mileage may vary" - my general disclaimer.
KaneNAbel Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 "Off the Beaten Path" - The Good Life Well I'm trying to be patient But the wheels keep turning round But it's a treadmill and I just dragging my feet I'm so tired of everything Defeated by routine By words that don't mean anything to me At least not anymore now that I'm done... with a morning of a day without ending A year of decadence to escape from penance But I've suffered. I'm over it, yeah I'm fine now, but I'm sick of it I was happy being miserable I used to lay down my head on the bar And raise one lonely finger for a drink It doesn't have to be so difficult just keep coasting by so you lost a limb Well hell it'll heal with time What happens when you love what you've lost? You didn't have to cut it off But I did, and I do, and it took everything that I have I wonder if I could ever get it back... to how it was when I still thought of love as a risk I could take if I was willing to make the commitment to rejection and the mind games, the deception The late nights under the covers pointing the finger at whoever started whatever we were fighting about I guess that I'm fine now everything's better everything's cooled down it's all copesetic We'll move on, off to a better world To a fresh start where anything's possible But I'm sick of it Yeah I'm sick of it I'm so sick of it No, I'm sick of it no, no, no, no, no I'm sick of it now I'm just sick of it now no, no, I am so sick of it no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no But he's sick of it no, no, no,no
