VirtualInsanity Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 I can never talk in my family. Whenever I do someone will: A.) Cut me off B.) Turn up the TV until I stop C.) Talk at the same time D.) Shushed I know I'm a burden and will be leaving soon. Don't understand why everyone else can but me. I can talk one on one SOMETIMES but that's it. It's frustrating. Gave up talking about school because all I get is "I don't want to talk, I'm not your sounding post." Not using them as sounding post. But...they get upset when their in the dark. No win situation. End of my rant!
Island Girl Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 Wow. I'd be REALLY upset if my family did this to me. Are you talking to them about a variety of topics? When everyone is talking together do you add to the topic of conversation? In a one on one situation do you find yourself doing all of the talking?

That's ALL they talk about. 6 a.m. the lecturing starts if I come out. Yes I do all the talking. 80% of it.

So you are the one lecturing?
Island Girl Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 Sorry -- reread both posts. They lecture about news and politics. And in a one on one you do 80% of the talking, right?

Island Girl Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 Perhaps they don't let you talk for fear of you taking over and controlling the conversation. In one on one contact perhaps you could have more of a conversation - lessen the 80% to maybe 60%? And see if that helps . But it could take a little while. If this is what is going on they have years of history of what to expect from you... Do you have the same problem with others outside of the household? Monopolizing the conversation?
Author VirtualInsanity Posted April 7, 2007 Author Posted April 7, 2007 Do you have the same problem with others outside of the household? Monopolizing the conversation? Oh no. I can carry a conversation with others. No problem. I do have a problem with talking to much. Love talking. ALWAYS talking even if it's in my head. Been doing it since I was a little. What's odd is they will talk to me but I'm not able to respond. Reason I talk 80% one on one with them is I can never get a word out of them.
