Star Gazer Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 Girl is almost 29. Guy 1 just turned 24. Guy 2 is 34. Thoughts (GENERALLY) regarding compatibility?
polywog Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 I dunno, I think it just depends on which one you like better. I would say though that the difference in maturity between the two men would weigh in favor of the 34 year old. I've almost always been involved with men between 3 and 7 years younger than I am, but I don't know if there's a reason for that. I've never been involved with a man more than 2 years older than me. Whatever that means.
tanbark813 Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 It depends on the maturity level of Girl, Guy 1, and Guy 2. Maturity level is, at best, only loosely related to age.
bridget_jones Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 Girl is almost 29. Guy 1 just turned 24. Guy 2 is 34. Thoughts (GENERALLY) regarding compatibility? It can work. I will go 5 years younger, and 5 years older. However the 24 year old might be less willing to get serious, but not always. The 34 year old might be looking more to settle down and have a serious relationship....But not always!
johan Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 Girl is age appropriate for Guy 2. She's too old for Guy 1. Guy 2 is a bit too old for Guy 1.
Trialbyfire Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 I think it's individual reliant. If the girl is a young 29 year-old, then the 24 year-old guy might be okay for her. If she's ready for something a little more serious and the 34 year-old guy is also, they'll mesh well.
blind_otter Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 Girl is age appropriate for Guy 2. She's too old for Guy 1. Guy 2 is a bit too old for Guy 1. I agree with this 100%. I vote to agree with Johan. All in favor, say "orange".
Storyrider Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 Have a quick fling with the 24 yr old first. Then go for the 34 yr old. Just kidding. Kinda.
mental_traveller Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 Girl is almost 29. Guy 1 just turned 24. Guy 2 is 34. Thoughts (GENERALLY) regarding compatibility? 5 years is not a meaningful age difference. Given compatible personalities & personal maturity levels, I'd say anything 10 years or less is pretty much irrelevant. And I see nothing wrong with a huge age gap as long as the two people can handle comments and are happy with each other.
Herzen Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 Depends on your relationship interests. If you want a fling with mucho heat, go for guy 1. If you want a long term relationship, go for the old guy. Have the fling with the callow (but virile) youth and then settle down with the old man.

If she does that she'll fall in love with guy 1 and end up hating guy 2.

This is the sort of generalisation that just doesn't work. How do you know the 34 year old isn't a serial player and the 24 year old might want to settle down and have kids? What if the 24 year old sucks in bed and the 34 year old really knows his stuff? Treat people as individuals first, age comes way down the list of priorities here. It's not like it's a 60 year old vs a 20 year old.
Trialbyfire Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 If the guy is an immature 24 year-old, I doubt she'll fall in love with him. The two have to be compatible with maturity level to have a meaningful relationship.
VinaAmez Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 Why does anyone care if their 5 years, 2 years, or even 1 year a part. As long as both people love each other and are committed to make the relationship work, that's all that should matter. I guess that makes me unfit to be with my SO because of a 5 or so age gap. Well screw that and f**k anyone who looks down on me for it. At least I'm with someone who gives a damn, and isn't one of the fools who thinks otherwise.
