I have been divorced for a year and a half. I have not really been dating, but now I am ready to get back in the game. I am having some issues, and I would welcome any help you may can give.

1) The people around here who are available are either not interested in me or I am not interested in them.

2) I am a GEEK MAGNET! For some reason, I seem to always attract the geeks who I wouldn't give a snowball's chance in h*ll!

I am not a bad person. I am witty and somewhat attractive (no beauty queen by no means though). I am very skeptical of internet dating for a number of reasons and would like to stay out that realm if at all possible. HELP! PLEASE!

maybe you should give a geek a snowball's chance...you might actually end up liking one...who knows? It's hard to meet someone when you automatically assume anyone who has the slightest tendency towards "geekiness" is not worth your time or less of a human being than you are...;)

It really confounds me that people, when they aren't attracted to someone, will find a way to be as dismissive as possible.

I'm going to have to agree with deacon, here. You might be missing out on a wonderful man, simply because you refuse to get to know what is on the INSIDE. I always went for a certain type. (azzholes! LOL) Seriously though, tall, dark, handsome. The "bad boys".

I met my SO online. We were friends only for a couple of years. I fell for what was on the inside. His personality. We finally met, and he is a "geek". I'm happier than I ever dreamed it was possible to be. Just something you might think about, :)

Are these geeks non-confident guys or is it that they're not attractive?

BOTH! I think that I may have worded my initial post in the wrong way! The inside was not intriguing as well as the outside. I just really wished that I could be happy with someone who keeps me on my toes. The initial looks are nice, but are not essential! Any suggestions would be great!

I have met some girls with similar problems - but they had a really bad attitude as a defensive mechanism. Ok what I think you should do is get to know anyone that approaches you (assuming you are a girl). Dont give them any false hopes but talk to them like you would talk to one of your friends and if it doesnt seem like anything is going to happen just tell them that you enjoyed the conversation. Also if you are ok with aproaching the guys you actually like - by all means go get them - if they like you and are interested they will be looking foreward to the next word you going to say.
