Pyro Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Sports and horror movies are a healthy outlet but many people actually seem to want to create soap operas in their lives for excitment. There is a fine line between those two categories. Sports and horror movies are a type of fictional drama, which will have no effect on your life, whereas the soap operas are the type of drama that we have been referring to throughout this thread.
Author Woggle Posted March 19, 2007 Author Posted March 19, 2007 Abnother thing is that with reality shows and the constant tabloiud headlines the line between reality and fantasy is getting blured and people actually think this type of stuff is exciting.
Pyro Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 so what...it beats being boring A healthy person doesn't have to resort to seeking out or creating that type of drama in order to keep their life exciting. I would do anything NOT to have drama in my life right now. When I think of drama I do tend to think of the negativity of it like other posters have mentioned. The drama I am going through in my life at the moment is nothing but chaotic, stressful and tiring. For once I would love to post on LS that I am happy and content with my life Hang in there CM. You are working on it.

Unfortunately those reality shows are making a lot of money and that is why they continue to do what they are doing.
Author Woggle Posted March 19, 2007 Author Posted March 19, 2007 Only for those who read the silly headlines, Wog. -Rio And that would be quite a lot of people. Sometimes I eat lunch in my office because that is all they talk about at work.
whichwayisup Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 A healthy person doesn't have to resort to seeking out or creating that type of drama in order to keep their life exciting. That's true. One of my friends always has stuff going on. As soon as her life slows down abit, something always happens (or she makes it happen!) to get that level of high drama going again. I hate hearing about it, it's just exhausting! I don't know how the F she lives her life. EVERYTHING is such a big deal and overreaction. My husband and I don't see her and her husband that often due to the craziness around them.

polywog Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 This is a great thread! I'm a person who hates drama and avoids people who create it and thrive on it like the plague. To me they are like someone banging their head against the wall wasting their time in their self-made box or cage, not really trying to get out of it and live life. They're avoiding processing and learning life's lessons. Sometimes it's because they are mentally ill or damaged, but worse is when it's a choice they've made. It's toxic, IMO. Now I love lively and provacative conversation... trialbyfire's description of playing the devil's advocate in conversation is up my alley, I hate boring safe dinner parties where no one has the guts to talk about anything real and it's all small talk. I tend not to persue frienships that have this stifling trait, tho I am capable of being on good behavior if I'm in company where lively conversation is taboo. Drama that is foisted upon is is a whole other deal. I suppose when I look back on these times in my life, and hopefully on what I'm going through in my life now, I'll be happy that I learned and grew from it. But I'd never ever have deliberately chosen these painful times!
Author Woggle Posted March 19, 2007 Author Posted March 19, 2007 I love heated debates as well. I have a group of people that I go to gun ranges with and most of them are not liberal democrats but I enjoy are political debates because when you look past politics they are good people and fun to be around. I have also called in to conservative talk radio a few times just to argue with the host but I never let these debates get personal. I would never to do something like start a dumb argument with my wife just to create excitment though.
coco_milkshake Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 My mum lives off these stupid Indian dramas where the Indian woman is the focus and how she is a good wife, good mother and most importantly, a good daughter in law and the trials she has to go through and mum talks about them like they are real life people lol. She cant go a day without creating drama, especially when my dad and sister are around. She will pick a fight with me and twist my words and make me look like the bitch. Its like she gets some sort of kick out of it. I just wish to be left alone. Her excuses for the arguments are that she is saving herself from the list of complaints that my in-laws will have ready for her if I dont be a good daughter in law *yawns*

If not, that is her way of keeping herself from being bored.
