Hi,

I am a 25 year old guy. Two months ago, I was fit 5'1'' for 165 lbs but I had a little belly and not very muscled in the upper body.

I have now changed. I run my bike on Saturdays and Sundays for 2 hours, 25 miles each day. On weekdays, I swim 50 laps (25yds each) every weekday morning (it takes me about 1/2 hour). I also do 30 situps every weeknight.

I've been doing this for about 1 month and I am not bored at all with it. In fact, I can't get enough workout. I haven't lost any weight (nominally) but my belly is almost gone.

How long before I start getting buff? Or is it the wrong workout?

You are not on a get buff, put on mucsle routine. With the reduction of bodyfat you are able to see the mucsle that was always there but to get buff you have to add resistance training. Weight lifting, pull ups, chin ups, push ups etc.

At first the impact and notice will be almost instant. You will start seeing caps on your shoulders, your chest developing, the bicip pose will no longer bring dread.

Then you will hit a sticking point where you won't grow anymore and you will decide which direction you want to go in. A relatively fit biker who looks good shirtless or a monster with veins and the mucsles in your feet popping out of your shoes.

Swimming is a good toning exercise, but you don't see any buff Olympic swimmers out there.

Taiko got it right.

You may also want to consult a trainer or talk to a friend who's really into working out. They usually know a ton.

if you're still out there I just checked my weight this morning. In 3 months I've put on 20 lbs of muscle:eek:

I have been doing push-ups and some light weight lifting along with some eliptical and pilates for almost three months now and I see drastic changes. I was sorta like you when I started and my weight hasn't changed much but I do need to buy a few new shirts now.

Just curious. How did you do that? Do you use protein drinks? Protein bars? How often do you work out?

I went to a 6 day a week workout schedule. 3 upper and 3 lower body days. I added protein drinks as before bed and during the day snacks. Never could stand the texture of the power bars. But I did also add protein powder to my oatmeal I ate pre workout, I workout early in the morning. Then had breakfast.

Since I was trying to get back into shape before my next visit with the wife I also tried the supplements most notably creatine.
