DanielMadr Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 I was called Mr. Darcy by some intellectual looking young lady. I know its some character from some emotional porn (romantic novel) called Pride&Prejudice. Should I be worried? What is this bloke Mr. Darcy about? Please give me some reasonable resume. Ill tell who is Gorky Butchek on return.
Author DanielMadr Posted March 12, 2007 Author Posted March 12, 2007 Mr. Darcy is a womanizer. God damn Could you elaborate chief please?
Island Girl Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Mr. Darcy is NOT a womanizer. Throughout the novel Pride and Prejudice he is misunderstood by Elizabeth Bennett as a less than honorable cad. Elizabeth mistakenly thinks him conceited and selfish among other things. All the while he is in love with her. But she learns of actions on his part and disagrees with them and tells him she doesn't like him and will never marry him. He proceeds to ensure her family's happiness and saves them from disgrace. He rights past wrongs. He does not tell her of his deeds. Though when she learns of them she faces the truth that she was wrong about him. And that she loves him desperately and in the end they are together. This is EXTREMELY simplified. It is a fantastic book - although for you I'd recommend the remake with Kiera Knightly from 2005. *** In short Darcy is handsome, strong, generous, charming, intelligent, -- well, everything one wishes her man would possess. What a fantastic compliment. She must have been trying to charm your pants off!

Island Girl Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 Ahh...such a good movie. I know!!!! *sigh* Even a man eating lioness like me would turn into a purring pussycat for Mr. Darcy. I still get choked up at the end -- In the 2005 version I love the scene at the end when he comes to her and tells her he loves her...

Island Girl Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 Thank you for your time Island Girl. I think I should watch that movie. No problem for the explanation. And you really should watch the movie. There is a reason that it is a timeless classic in literature - it not only has been made and remade several times but the plot is the premise for so many movies. You really should watch it - the 2005 version received 4 academy awards.

alphamale Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 Sure she didn't mean Mr. Darcy from Bridget Jones Diary? no BES...he means Jefferson Darcy from Married with Children
Island Girl Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 Sure she didn't mean Mr. Darcy from Bridget Jones Diary? Yet another movie based on Pride and Prejudice. Girl meets boy. Girl thinks boy is attractive - but feels slighted by him. Girl systematically discovers boy is complete jerk. Then the boy shares his attraction for her. Girl finds out all actions she condemned the boy for weren't that way at all. Girl finds out she loves him and they are together in the end. Hence, being called Mr. Darcy. Another great movie where the man is everything you'd want in a MAN. Love it.
Storyrider Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 The other important thing about Mr. Darcy is that he is proud. Thus, the Pride part of the title. He comes across as conceited when Elizabeth first meets him. He can't be bothered to speak to certain people he considers beneath his attention. He seems like a snob. It is only later that she learns he is somewhat socially stiff, but really a wonderful man and not the snob that he first seemed to be. If I compared you to Mr. Darcy, I might mean that you seemed cold and distant, but that you were really a prince underneath. I strongly recommend the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice for a depiction that is faithful to Jane Austen's novel. In the mean time, for a much shorter and very enjoyable spoof on Mr. Darcy, click here:
Star Gazer Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 Um, aren't we leaving out the Bridget Jones character???!?!?!? (who interestingly enough is also played by Colin Firth...)

alphamale Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 Who was the second husband to Marcy? Steve Rhodes was her 1st husband...Jefferson Darcy the 2nd.
letter-to-elise Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 But if you want to watch Pride and Prejudice, watch the BBC series. It is MUCH better than the 2005-movie that is way too short!
