unknown_soldier Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 Hi I'm not in a LDR but it's something I might need to consider. Anyway I'm curious what's a best way to travel say from LA to Fresno or somewhere like that. I checked the flights and they're all like $300.. it don't make sense since flying to san francisco is $100 and it's twice as far. Does anyone know why it costs so much to fly somewhere half the distance? And is there a way to get cheaper airfares?
Sweetie2007 Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 Sometimes a travel agent can be cheaper than online, at least where I live. I have no idea about in Cali though, it could be different. The online sites I usually visit are orbitz and expedia, you could also try the airline directly, but I haven't had much luck with that...try flying into the biggest airport you can, my travel agent said that's cheaper, and has more flight/airline options, than flying into small airports. That's all I can give you, since I live in NH, other side of the country...sorry, hope it helped!

There is more invovled then just paying the cost of fuel to move your mass, an X distance. So many more flights go to San Francisco then Fresno that to compete with all the airlines on that major route the San Francisco price drops. Also LA like any other airport can only handle so many flights a day. Again they can load a plane to San Fran or half load a puddle jumper to Fresno. Instead of hundreds of passengers sharing the cost the cost of the flight is picked up by the 10?, 20? Who want to travel to Fresno
norajane Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 Try driving. It's only a little over 200 miles from LA to Fresno, so about a 3 to 4 hours drive depending on LA traffic. That's probably how long it would take you to get to the airport, get through security, wait for your flight, fly there, get your luggage, and then finally get to your friend's house.

Yeah I suppose it's about the same as Vegas, but I was just curious cause I love flying and it'd be a nice thing to do once or twice a month. I should've known bout the passenger/cost ratio, being I used to work for an airline.

Why did you post this on LDR? Is this a girl that you are visiting in Fresno -- ?

I was on some site and for some reason there's a lot of people from that area, and it just got me thinking maybe I need to try something new, since there seems to be nobody I will ever like here. Why do you ask, are you from there? Well I know that ain't the pacific but.. BTW are you from Hawaii?

Why do you ask, are you from there? Well I know that ain't the pacific but.. BTW are you from Hawaii? I was born in Northern California. I have been to Fresno (2x and both times SUCKED). No, I'm not from Hawaii. My husband is Tongan - and now that we were married in Tonga - I have dual citizenship (tongan and American). My husband is still in Tonga. We have been LD for over 4 years but his papers are being filed now for him to come back to the US. Why do you say there is nobody you will like where you are? -- Just curious. Of course there are all sorts of ways to meet someone these days. Although my husband and I met the traditional way - face to face - and even lived together before he left over 4 years ago. I'm an expert at the LDR thing. - I saw him for 1 week in 2003. Then 3 weeks in 2006 when we were finally married. We didn't even see pictures in the three years in between.
