chilatte Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 First off, I am a female. Let me define "friend" or "friendship" when I use it here: A person you hang out with alot or sometimes, talk on the phone, email, etc... I am not talking about just Anyone. I have a lot of people of both sexes I consider friends but I just want to define the level of friendship I am referring too. I am so suprised to read on these forums about girls who are in a relationship and still have seperate male friends. I am married and the only guys I consider friends I don't hang out with or have contact. If I happen to see them somewhere I talk to them but that is it. Most of the guys I know any way are my husband's friends. It seems that if a girl has guy friends they hang out with or talk on the phone, email, etc. then the boyfriend gets jealous and if a guy has female friends then the girl gets jealous. Here is what I am curious about. I would like to hear why would a guy want to continue maintaining a friendship with a girl who is already taken. Do guys really want a female friend who already has a boyfriend or spouse? What are their intentions? Just to have a friendship or more?

Almost always in so-called "friendships" one party is attracted to the other. Women are for having sex with, not for being friends with.

Do guys really want a female friend who already has a boyfriend or spouse? What are their intentions? Just to have a friendship or more? Just because they are my friends, thats why. It doesn't matter to me if they are involved with someone or not. They are my friends in the same why that my other friends are my friends: similar interests, fun to hang out with....... Guys are able to have friendships with the opposite sex. They just have to know how to do it properly.

magichands Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 It doesn't matter to me if they are involved with someone or not. I agree. Everyone is fair game.
Pyro Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 I agree. Everyone is fair game. That isn't what I meant obviously, but I think that you were just finding an excuse to use the bunny.
magichands Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 What are their intentions? Just to have a friendship or more? Probably to be a shoulder to cry on. And, afterwards, to get into their pants. Empathy in action.
magichands Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 That isn't what I meant obviously, but I think that you were just finding an excuse to use the bunny. My humble apologies. I can see now that I took you out of context.
Pyro Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 My humble apologies. I can see now that I took you out of context. Its cool. Tragicglands knew what I was talking about.
magichands Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Its cool. Tragicglands knew what I was talking about. You're probably right.
tragicglands Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Its cool. Tragicglands knew what I was talking about. Damn straight.
Pyro Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Damn straight. You always seem to be around when needed most.
Pyro Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 So apparently I am in the minority here. Am I the only guy who is able to separate feelings from friendship? Even if I did have any slight interest in any of my female friends, it would be nothing that I couldn't shrug off and not let bother me, but if I ever did have a friend who I had feelings for and could not shrug off, I would either make a move, or stop being her friend, but having friends of the opposite sex is actually beneficial IMO. Back in the day when I had many questions pertaining to the opposite sex, it was nice to have someone who knows what they are talking about.
Author chilatte Posted March 3, 2007 Author Posted March 3, 2007 Ok...Interesting answers. Thanks for the replies. I have question for The Riddler. You say you do have female friends who are in a relationship that you hang with beacause of the reasons you stated. Do you have a girlfriend? If so, if she has seperate male friends that are "just friends", then you are ok with this? They can hang out without you and you never doubt or wonder if anything else could be going on or that the other guy friends have any other intentions with your girlfriend? If you don't have a girlfriend, lets say that you do. I am not attacking you, I am just trying to understand both sides of this issue.
magichands Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 , I would either make a move, or stop being her friend, That's the way I approach things. More great advice from The Riddler.

I do have a GF and yes she does have a male friend and they were pretty good friends, but nothing has happened between them. I am ok with it because my GF is honest about everything. If she were to start lying about hanging out with him or something like that, then I may get suspicious, but she always invites me to go along if she is going to be somewhere he may be at. Anything else?
Pyro Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 That's the way I approach things. More great advice from The Riddler. Where would I be without you MH?
magichands Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Anything else? This is like your own press conference. I would like to know what colour (and style of) underwear you have on.
Pyro Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 This is like your own press conference. I would like to know what colour (and style of) underwear you have on. For the record: blue boxer briefs.
Author chilatte Posted March 4, 2007 Author Posted March 4, 2007 No. I am done questioning you. Thanks for your answers. This does satisfy my curiosity that two people in a committed relationship can have seperate friends of the opposite sex and not have any problems, jealousy, etc.
magichands Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 For the record: blue boxer briefs. This does satisfy my curiosity Oh yeah... mine too.
