Do you debate/discuss/analyze stuff with your SO?

Like, if you're reading a book about something, or heard an interesting story on the news, or ran across some piece of information on the internet, politics, historical events, philosophy, scientific discoveries, anything - is it important to your relationship to be able to have discussions with your SO?

I do this all the time and it's kind-of a requirement that my SO be into debate/discussion like that. I'm curious how many other people consider that important. If not, what do you talk about?

Work is a big topic.. We are in the same industry ( in fact the company she works for is a client of mine ).

I put in a full blown gym downstairs so we are also discussing workouts.

Our favorite tv shows we watch..

Politics and fox news...

On weekends at the cabin we talk about our personal lives together and talk about all the things we like to do together..

and of course there is all the sex talk in 20 or so emails each day talking about the things we are going to do with one another :)

a little bit about everything … stuff I hear about at work, breaking news he sees on TV (he's retired), checking in after doctor appointments – those are the workday phone calls. At home, it's a mishmash, from family gossip, to nagging about whatever is annoying (usually me) one of us, telling me how his day went, what the dog did, and lately, about the damned problems with our plumbing/septic system. Sometimes I'll read passages from whatever book I'm reading if they're funny, sometimes I'll force him to make piggy faces, which always cracks me up. And from time to time, we try to save the world from itself with our very biased opinions.

That's one of my favorites - how wonderful the world would be according to me.

We talk about politics and music mostly but we can go on about anything. I know this sounds corny but we like to watch the history channel together and see how things are made.

I don't think that's corny at all - it's kinda cool, actually.

My bf and I look stuff up on the internet all the time...the latest was how a car's power windows work...

Some of that stuff is interesting. Now we know the entire history of canned food and how candy is made.

It would be quicker to post what we don't talk about.

We did work together for many years and had an "in the car only" rule that we could discuss work on the way home and then its over. Now that we don't work together, work is up for grabs again.

Heck, we even sit and discuss why Patrick Swayze is so darned good looking (and no, hubby does not lean that way, he just gets me).

If its happening, we discuss it.

Ages ago when my bf and I first got together, we used to work for the same company - it was a huge place and we were in different buildings, completely different jobs, but the organization's peculiarities were an endless source of discussion.

We used to spend hours laughing about the "corporate speak" our managers used...even now, we still use the phrase "opening the kimono" when we want to talk openly about something. :lmao:

Everything. Being in a LDR involves alot of talking online and on the phone so.. Work, friends, politics, our home country, our adopted country, family, music, SEX!

We also rant on alot about how we could make the world a better place too-esp after watching reality TV. We are both science geeks who like watching documentaries and nature programmes, so I hear you Woggle.

We have a few private long running jokes that we talk about, as well as general silly rubbish.

I like talking to my SO. He is one of my best friends as well as my boyfriend.

Sounds like a keeper. :)

My bf always knows when I've been watching those home renovations shows on HGTV - I start talking about how to renovate his bathroom, or what kind of hardware he should get to replace the handles on his dressers or kitchen cabinets...

He is. I know what you mean, last year I went thru a phase of DIY but hurt my shoulder so bad I nearly had to have time off work- not good.

Apparently in the UK there has been a DIY backlash, and all those programmes are declining, and the DIY shops are losing money. I think its because of all the cockups people have made of their homes after watching TV!!

We watch ALOT of cooking shows together cos we both love food.... and then go try the recipes out- watch out kitchen!

Except today he went to my absolute favourite food market without me and bought a kilo of the best choc brownies in the world... which will be gone by the time I see him next. :( Damn these LDRs!!
