This is my first relationship that has made it past the initial chemistry... I need some help identifying what true love and real love are 'cuz I'm not sure if I'm in it or have it.

Please reply.

....when you get to a point where you could completely sacrifice something that means everything to you, just to make them happy....even if that means walking away from them, forever.

It's like this Short Story I was read as a kid.

There was a poor couple, and it was Christmas time, they both loved each other very much. The man's most prized posession was his watch, and lady's was her long beautiful hair.

They wanted to get each other special gifts....the lady wanted to give her husband a chain for his watch...and he wanted to give her these beautiful combs for her hair.

In the end, she ended up selling her hair for the chain, and he sold the watch for the combs.

That, to me, has always been the ultimate expression of love.

You know that story too? *smile*

It's one of my favorites.

You know, I know that I like him more than anyone else. And he likes me, too. I really can't let myself fret over if we'll make it ten years from now, anyway... I have to worry about more important things right now. (I was just "let go" from my job this morning.)

About which, by the way, he's being very comforting towards me. I'll tell you something... he gives me hope unlike anyone else. That's why I worry so much about "us"--who's gonna help me when he's gone? :-P

Anyway... ttfn.

Sure you feel love right now. You are in a euphoric stage of love. When you "fall out of love" and start living life togehter, then you'll be able to find out if you love them or not.

FYI...that story is called The Gift of the Magi.

I think love is kind of like how the courts define pornography: "Difficult to completely describe, but you know it when you see it."

Except, of course, with love, you know it when you are in it...

That's the first time I've heard love and porn put together where it actually works! Oh and thanks for the name of the story! I LOVE THAT STORY!

it makes alot of sense.

i think that when you love someone there can't be any selfishness. selfishness destroys people and love.

i wish love could be so easily explained but it can't because each person's definition of love is so different.

as you get to know "love" you'll determine your thoughts about it and what it means, what it looks, feels, smells, sounds like.

you will learn what you will and will not put up with for love. but most important, you need to love yourself in order for this relationship to work. because if you don't, this relationship won't make it. you'll then put up with things and go overboard because you are too afraid to lose his love and forsake your own love for yourself. then you'll cling on and hold tight, and then, lose the very thing you wanted.

in the end, you'll fall in love a few times. and each time will be different. and each time you'll think that each break up is the end of the world. that is one thing i know, it never is the end of the world, because you'll fall in love again. you don't think you will, but you will.
