pureinheart Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 Just wanted to share this.... Recently I was diagnosed, through blood work, with a hyperactive thyroid....it has been miserable....racing heart, high pulse rate, nervousness....the list goes on and on. Am now thinking, I've had this for quite some time, years. High levels of stress can bring on the "thyroid storms" (this is when the thyroid releases extremely large amounts of this hormone, causing toxicity in the body). In the past year my stress levels have been off the chart, which mostlikely brought this on.... Because of this condition that was unknown at the time, I was unable to tolerate MM any longer. The stress that he alone caused was unreal....he drove me nuts. He caused me to be so nervous around him because he was a pain in the butt. I couldn't take the drama.... A bad thing can be turned for the good!
kymberann Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 Hi Pure, Glad to hear you have a correct Dx and are able to take care of the thyroid!. Yes I agree bad things can and often do have better/happier endings than what we originally thought they would bring us! Look at you, you lost someone that caused so much stres, which actually was making your thyroid worse! Now that he is gone, life can settle into some normalcy! Best to you, you deserve it!
stillhere Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 I'm glad you are feeling much better pure! The only thing that sucks about thyroid disease is that you have to take pills for the rest of your life. At least the prescriptions are cheap!! I have hypothyroidism, the worse of the two (in my eyes at least). I'm so jealous!! I had/have severe weight gain, hair loss, short term memory loss, feeling cold all the time, etc. I'm happy that you finally got to the bottom of it and now can go back to living a somewhat normal life. Thyroid disease seems pretty common and as long as it's under control, it's nonlifethreatening.
frannie Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 I have hypothyroidism too. Started about four and a half years ago after my bout with the abusive ex. It's mostly under control now with thyroxin, but it has had a really bad effect on my health over the past few years. And no, all the stress of the affair doesn't help at all.
Trialbyfire Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 I have a ton of family who have hyperthyroids so I've seen first hand what it can do. The weight loss can be insane. One of my brothers used to eat 6 meals a day to try to maintain somewhere between 114 lbs to 120 lbs at 5'10"+. Good for you for leaving behind a situation that exasperated the problem. Now you can focus on you.
