JohnM Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Hmm, so the love bug has struck. Main problem I am having at the moment is being able to sleep. Either I am kept awake thinking of my GF when she isn't there or when she is with me in my bed I find it almost impossible to get to sleep. It's a bit of a problem now as its knackering me out and leaves me really tired since I am going the next day without sleep or only a few short napped hours sleep. Any help? This is my first everything rolled into one with this girl - kiss, gf etc and I'm finding it hard to adjust to having someone else there with me in bed. I'm a light sleeper at the best of times and it usually takes me a while to get to sleep as I have to turn a few times before I drift off. With her there she takes up quite alot of space and I don't want to move her about and wake her up too much.
sb129 Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 My BF snores like a trooper, but you do get used to it. I need to wear earplugs sometimes tho. Its kinda nice being in a first sleepless stages.... it won't last long. Its also nice when you get to the stage where you can't sleep unless they ARE there..
Author JohnM Posted February 25, 2007 Author Posted February 25, 2007 Hmm, not being able to sleep when shes not there would not be good. She doesn't live in my city and is an hour away! Does the sleepness just tend to phase out? I was going to put some earplugs in as its very noisy as I live in the city centre but I didn't want to miss anything she may say if I have them in.
sb129 Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 My earplugs are my saviours. The wax muffles ones you can get at boots are the best. They have prevented many sleepless nights and potential arguments! Yes, you do get used to having someone in the bed. It can take a while tho. If your GF knows you have them in, she can just tap your shoulder to get your attention maybe? Don't pretend that you can sleep no problem while she is there, otherwise you will have to pretend that forever. I am sure she willl be cool if you explain.
Author JohnM Posted February 25, 2007 Author Posted February 25, 2007 Okay, thanks for the tips. I have been wanting to buy some proper ear plugs for a while so I'll check out the ones you suggested. I went to Boots the other day when I hadn't got any sleep to get calms sleep pills and lavender pillow mist. They didn't help at all! I just hate being tired when shes here though as I'm so tired I can't really do what I want to do. I don't have the energy to dance let alone anything more demanding! I don't like to do things half heartedly and that along with my shyness are the main reason why I haven't taken things past just kissing and hugging yet even though its there for me whenever I'm ready. I'm lucky shes so sweet and understands what I'm feeling.
Mr. Lucky Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 With her there she takes up quite alot of space and I don't want to move her about and wake her up too much. Two words for you - California King. Get the largest size mattress you can, gives you the best of both worlds... Mr. Lucky
IpAncA Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 Two words for you - California King. Get the largest size mattress you can, gives you the best of both worlds... Mr. Lucky Yep! The twin and full size beds don't work.
boshemia Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 Vetran insomiac here... and I sing the praises of tylenol PM. No side effects other than a bit groggy in the morning. And earplugs are also a god send... The other trick I learned works for me, but it might not work for others quite as well. I sleep with the TV on, and I set the VCR to auto repeat... I took my Tylenol PM and then put in the same movie every night. I use "The Princess Bride" and because I already know it by heart, and there are no loud explosions to wake me up. I use "Forrest Gump" as a back-up lol At first it was hard to get used to, but now I lay down and start listening to the dialogue... I have most of it memorized and can see the actors and scenes in my head. It knocks me out cold within minutes now! It's great! Don't have to use earplugs anymore either. I've also heard of people using this trick with music, but it can be a very strong psychological suggestion, so pick something you aren't likely to hear at other times during the day.
Author JohnM Posted February 26, 2007 Author Posted February 26, 2007 Hmm, I'm a student in a flat with a single bed. If I could get a double I would! lol I may start putting on some classical music on quietly, if music has anysort of prominent drum beat then I can't help but concentrate on it.
sb129 Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 You're in a single bed?? Get a double! Pronto!
Author JohnM Posted February 27, 2007 Author Posted February 27, 2007 These are private flats and so I can't get another bed. Theres not enough room for one anyhow.
