johnlucas Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 Just something of mine I came up with years ago thinking of tales of wayward boyfriends/girlfriends & spouses. Tales of wifebeaters, babyspawners, neglectfuls, argument-makers, users, cheaters, heartbreakers, deadsexers, chaotics & others of this ilk... The 3 Billion Rule. There are APPROXIMATELY 6,000,000,000 people living on planet Earth. That's 6 Billion. Not Million. BILLION. Out of those 6,000,000,000 APPROXIMATELY HALF are Women and HALF are Men. Making a total of: 3,000,000,000 Men and 3,000,000,000 Women So there are 3 Billion People in the world for you to choose from. For heterosexuals AND homosexuals. •For heterosexual men there are 3 Billion WOMEN to pick from. •For heterosexual women there are 3 Billion MEN to pick from. •For homosexual men there are 3 Billion MEN to pick from. •For homosexual women there are 3 Billion WOMEN to pick from. •For bisexual people: male and female there are SIX Billion PEOPLE to choose from. 6 Billion for you. To give you a handle on how much a Billion is let me show you this example. It is common fact that humans don't have the ability to intuitively recognize numbers higher than 4. Don't believe me? Scatter a pack of marbles on the ground & see how fast you count them. You break bigger groups into sets of 1, 2, 3, & 4. You see 7? No you don't. You see 3 then 4. Maybe 2, 2, 2, and 1. You see 6? No you don't. You see 2 sets of 3. Maybe 3 sets of 2. You see 10? No you don't. You see 2 sets of 5. And really you have to see 3 then 2 to see the 5 if it's not in a perfect pentagonal formation. How about 11? How about confusion? The bigger the number the harder the intimate recognizance. This is why we tend to round off when numbers get unmanageable. 20 is thought of more as 2 Tens which makes it much simpler to digest. Numbers like 99 throw you off because you think of the single 9 in the ninety-nine knowing that the "-ty" means a Ten-group but easily letting you forget that it's really closer to 100. Retailers & gas stations know this trick very well. When we hear the groups of Ten named "Ty", Hundred, Thousand, Million, Billion we only think in general terms of "Bunch" or "Lot". A "Ty" is a little bunch. A "Hundred" is a bigger bunch than a "Ty". A "Thousand" is a bigger bunch than a "Hundred". A "Million" is a bigger bunch than a "Thousand". A "Billion" is a bigger bunch than a "Million". We never realize EXACTLY the degrees of 'Bunchdom' those different classifications have. Exactly why we don't react as strongly as we should when you hear how our governments can waste billions of dollars without any benefit to us. The "-illion" sound confuses things & people already not realizing how big a million is certainly don't have a handle on what a billion is. Which is why my subject title may have little resonance with you. All you really recognize is "3" & know that "Billion" is a "Lot" of something. To the example: The World's Richest Man, Bill Gates, is worth (let's keep it simple for math's sake) $50,000,000,000. 50 Billion Dollars I said. It takes 1,000 Millions, ONE THOUSAND Millions to make JUST ONE Billion. If he were to lose 90% NINETY PERCENT of ALLLLLLL of his money, NEARLY *ALL* of his money, like taking a large pizza & leaving one slice in the box for the others to eat, HE WOULD BE *WORTH*: 5,000,000,000 Dollars 5 Billion Dollars $5,000,000,000 FIVE BILLION DOLLARS He would *STILL* be ridiculously wealthy after losing NEARLY *ALL* of his money. No, I don't think you heard me; let me try again. Let's say he lost 99% N-I-N-E-T-Y N-I-N-E PERCENT which d*mn near means he lost it ALL. D*mn near 100%. Practically ALL of his money. Virtually ALL of his money. The hourglass of sand only has a few grains left at the top half. It's 11:59 & 12:00 is coming. The meal is eaten and only crumbs are left on the plate. The needle on the record player is reaching the paper center. There's only droplets left in the pitcher of Berry Blue Kool-Aid. The gas tank reads "E" and is running on fumes & you're hoping you can reach the next gas station in time. If he lost THIS MUCH, HE WOULD BE *WORTH*: 500,000,000 Dollars 5 Hundred-Million Dollars $500,000,000 FIVE HUNDRED-MILLION DOLLARS ***STILLLLLL*** ridiculously WEALTHY EVEN AFTER *virtually* *losing it* *ALL* Do you SEE how much a Billion is now? Just 1 Billion? Now imagine 3? And 6? Why am I explaining this all out like this? Because I want to tell you that there are PLENTY of people to choose from when someone in your life is not doing right by you & doesn't WISH to do right by you. EXPAND your sphere of possibility. Of course practically you can't see all of the people in the world. Even in America there are APPROXIMATELY 260,000,000 people in this country & its possessions. Two Hundred 'n' Sixty MILLION. That means ROUGHLY there are 130,000,000 people to choose from if you're not bisexual. One Hundred 'n' Thirty MILLION. You can run across 100 bad matches & STILL have Great Odds of finding someone good for you. Most people aren't gonna meet or know too much over 100 people in their lifetime. Much less a 1,000 which is Ten Hundreds. The more open you keep your mating possibilities the better selection you'll have to choose from. Even IF you're highly selective only choosing blacks to date or whites to date or asians, latins, middle easterners, pacific islanders to date...whether only tall people or short people or thin people or fat people or muscular people or curvy people or middle class people or professional people or military people or business-owning people or religious people... WHATEVER it is. There are STILL plenty of opportunity for you to find someone who will treat you as you are *supposed* to be treated. You don't have to put up with a mate that won't respect you or care for you. I call it the 3 Billion Rule. Your capabilities are as large as THE WORLD. John Lucas
Art_Critic Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 If he lost THIS MUCH, HE WOULD BE *WORTH*: 500,000,000 Dollars 5 Hundred-Million Dollars $500,000,000 FIVE HUNDRED-MILLION DOLLARS ***STILLLLLL*** ridiculously WEALTHY EVEN AFTER *virtually* *losing it* *ALL* I doubt Bill gates would think he was ridiculously wealthy if he lost it all and was only left with 500 mil.. Cute analogy though..
kitten chick Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 This was fantastic! It reminds me of The Art of Mathematics
Author johnlucas Posted May 22, 2006 Author Posted May 22, 2006 I doubt Bill gates would think he was ridiculously wealthy if he lost it all and was only left with 500 mil.. Cute analogy though.. Coming from where he came from, no he wouldn't. But 500,000,000 is d*mn sure a lot of money. He would still be Half an Oprah which is pretty doggone good if you ask me. And to everyone else out here they would say the same. Five Hundred Million Dollars is still ridiculously wealthy in anybody's book. John Lucas
Outcast Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 Your capabilities are as large as THE WORLD. Mebbe so but I'm not about to travel to Botswana to find someone suitable
whichwayisup Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 Welcome to LS John Lucas. I like your posts! And I hope those who need advice, really benefit from what you say!
FWIW Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 •For homosexual men there are 3 Billion MEN to pick from. All men are gay, are they?! I would hope you rule out children and maybe the very elderly, too! Let's see. 3 billion to chose from. I'd probably want to stick to a 10 year age range around my age, let's take a guess at 10%? 300,000,000 it is then. At least two thirds of those are spoken for : that leaves 100,000,000. The odds of being attracted? 1 in 20? 5,000,000. The same odds for them finding ME attractive? 250,000. Are we really compatible? 1 in 100?! Just 2,500 left now. And those 2,500 are spread out over millions of square miles all over the planet, and may seldom go out and meet people. I'll need some luck finding one!
