SkyEmtRN Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Hey everyone suffering or going through a BU. Are your emotions on the frits? Does your body shake and you can't control it? Are you angry, pissed off, want to scream? Can't get the thought of the break up out of your head? Or simple have trouble focusing due to the break up? Then try this temporary treatment that can be done whenever you experience those listed above. This temporary method that can calm your nerves down a little bit. It's called pursed lip breathing and helps you to relax since it slows your heart rate down and focuses your attention on your breathing. It also increases your oxygen saturation and is especially useful if you are hyperventilating. First take a slow deep breathe in through your nose. Then release that breath through your mouth slowly for 4 seconds. Count to four in your head while you exhale. When your exhaling, put your lips as if you are about to whistle You can also close your eyes while doing this. Yes, I am a medical profession and we teach this to our patients suffering from anxiety, respiratory distress and many other issues. Hope this helps.
