810 Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 how long does infatuation last? how long does it take for love to develop?
John018 Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 how long does infatuation last? how long does it take for love to develop? I have no idea. I have been in love with a woman for over 5 years now. i have not seen her in 4. On top of that I barely knew her. So most people would say that i am not in love but just infatuated with her. They say that love can last forever. Who knows? Can you be infatuated with a person you haven't seen for over 4 years? Again who knows. Sorry I have no answers. I just felt like ranting about my crappy life. I would say this though. If you're infatuated with someone and you get into a relationship then great - I hope it works out for you. if you're infatuated with someone who you're not with then run like hell.
OldSkool Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 In my experience, Infatuation and Love are two very different things, though they are not mutually exclusive. Infatuation is what you feel for someone because of how they make you feel about yourself. Love is what you feel for someone because of everything they are. Love stands alone. Love does not discriminate by age, gender, race, creed, belief structure, etc. Infatuation only lasts as long the other person makes you feel good about yourself. Have you ever broken up with someone, after time heals the hurt, you still care about your ex, you still want the best for them, even though that may not be you. You still have love for them, though you are no longer In Love with them. The infatuation is long gone, but love survives. Peace
Surrealist Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Can fat turn into muscle? Can muscle turn to fat? A common misconception is that muscle can turn to fat which is not true as they are two entirely different body tissues. Likewise infatuation cannot turn into love and as OldSkool mentions love and infatuation are two entirely different things. I also agree with OldSkools comments around caring for the ex as he mentions. Whether it is a current partner or an ex partner, you will KNOW when you love someone, it is by far different to infatuation and good feelings.

I thought I had it bad when it takes 6 months to get over it.
John018 Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 I thought I had it bad when it takes 6 months to get over it. Good for you. Being able to let go and move on in such a short space of time shows a lot of emotional maturity.
EasyHeart Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 how long does infatuation last? how long does it take for love to develop? All love starts as infatuation, but not all infatuation leads to love. There's no set time when love starts to develop, but it usually takes at least 3-6 months before it starts, and then it continues to grow. That's why so many 'relationships' last 3-6 months -- the infatuation wears off, you realize love is never going to happen, and you move on.
Author 810 Posted November 24, 2010 Author Posted November 24, 2010 You still have love for them, though you are no longer In Love with them. oldskool, i have a dumb question: which one is stronger, in love or love?

Surrealist Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 most people are looking for the perfect person whereas they should look for the perfect match. Or another saying I like is.... Most people are looking for the perfect partner when they should be looking to be the perfect partner. Paraphrased, can't remember exact phrase.
