irc333 Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 I think I might start a thread, everytime I see something (because I think I made a post last time and forget the list and keep meaning to add to it) think I'll book mark this if I come across more "Online Dating Cliche's" The ever popular "If you're looking for <blank>, move onto the next profile" statements. "I'm not here looking for a one-night stand, if you are move on to the next profile" "If you're here to just get laid, move on" "If you're a jerk or a playa, move on to the next profile" "If you like to play games, move on to the next profile" Of course there's the headliner on their profile that says, "No players or games!" (What's also ironic is, I've emailed these women, I figure "Hey cool, I'm not a player! And I'm not a jerk, I have a GREAT SHOT at this lady!" Nope rejected! lol.....I think I saw someone's profile that had a list of 10 , "don't be this or please be this) "If you don't have a car, or have a CRIMINAL record, please move on" (I was rejected by this woman to, when I say rejected....I mean ignored...funny how NOT having a criminal record isn't good enough, ya know? lol) "If you don't have a car or job, move on" I think that's all of the "Move On" cliche's...now on to others. "Not into bullshytters, I can detect BS'er a mile away!" (Then she dates a guy doesn't detect a thing, and gets taken for everything, lol) The "Philosophiser" (not sure if I got the spelling right, lol) I could ad lib, but it goes on something like this: "Life's too short to sweat the small stuff, life life to the fullest, and perhaps you'll have happiness, too" Sometimes they'd do just that and offer NOTHING about themselves ina profile, and then they put the author's name at the end of their profile, like "Plato" or something.....oh, found an example: "The harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly; it is dearness only that gives everything its value. I love the man that can smile in trouble, that can gather strength from distress and grow brave by reflection. 'Tis the business of little minds to shrink; but he whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves his conduct, will pursue his principles unto death." Thomas Paine Yeah, very original, and that's ALL she had, she had pictures up though...about 6 pictures...very hot latina...but useless profile otherwise. The Poet: They write poetry in their profile...nothing else. Ah HA, I think I found something new...ESPECIALLY in Lieu of the recent South Park show about New Jersey people taking over the nation. LOL The JERSEY GIRL! (or guy) that does not live in New Jersey.... Yep, that episode probably had a lot of people in stitches because it made fun of people from New Jersey. "I'm a Jersey girl, born and raised, and moved to <whatever state>, and now having fun!" You see certain spellings of their screen name "Jerzygurl" or "Jurzygiirl" or some variant. I'll think I'll end on that note, anyone care to add others, I'll ad some more when I think of any. lol
Tim The Enchanter Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 I've lost count of how many women put "I work hard and play hard" in their profile. God, that's so trite! To me it smacks of a lack of imagination. "Where are all the real/good men?" is another one.

bayouboi Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 My favorite is "I'm not like other girls..." then they go on to write EXACTLY what every other girl writes in their profiles which in my area is "I like to go muddin' and fishin' and huntin', I'm not a girly girl." I'm like, dude, if I wanted to date a dude I'd be datin' a dude. I want a girly girl dammit.
Tim The Enchanter Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 Oh how could I forget my absolute pet hate: "I'm not sure what to write here". Is your life really so empty that you can't even write a few sentences about it? And the ones where they say "I can't believe I'm doing this" as if they're too good for OLD and everyone on there is a sad bastard.
Knittress Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 I'm always put off by male profiles in which he makes explicit what is and is not physically acceptable in a woman. Even if he's managed to de-emphasis the statement and cloak it in language of lifestyle and health. I'm not saying such guys don't have a point, but there just something crass and narcissistic about stating it regardless. Something like, "I'm just going to sit back on my throne and objectify and evaluate the personal worthiness of everyone else in the world according to my tastes." It's totally not a gender-thing either, but this is the version that bugs me.
Author irc333 Posted October 19, 2010 Author Posted October 19, 2010 You mean when they say, "I like a woman who can take care of herself, because I do the same" or "A woman who can keep a healthy lifestyle"? Or more commonly, "I'm not saying looks aren't everything, but there needs to be some kind of physical attraction or it just won't work." Something to that effect? There's this one woman, she's only 5'5", and she says in her profile, at botht he beginning AND at the end. "Please if you're less than 5'9", do NOT email me!" Eventually, she added an update stating other guys not to email her all ticked off about her shallow height criteria, but sorry, she kind of brings it on herself....plus she kind of dresses like a nightclub chick, she's hot, but kind stuck on herself in varying different poses, exposing cleavage for everyone to see. I guess she enjoys frustrating the shorter guys. LOL. And in a recent update she's irritated with guys with "What's up with the 100 questions??" attitude. Of course, she quotes Marilyn Monroe, 'nuff said there. I'm always put off by male profiles in which he makes explicit what is and is not physically acceptable in a woman. And the ones where they say "I can't believe I'm doing this" as if they're too good for OLD and everyone on there is a sad bastard. This is a variation on the frequently encountered: "I'm new to this but ..." IME there are a lot of men looking for a "classy lady" ... and just about everyone is a "young" 30, 40, 50 or 60 - as if having the attitudes of a 20-year-old makes you the most desirable thing on earth.
Author irc333 Posted October 19, 2010 Author Posted October 19, 2010 "Looking for my Knight in Shining Armor" or "Looking for my prince" and even an opening paragraph in greater detail about said Prince. Oh...and the woman is over 40.....if she was 20 something I can excuse that, but if you're a woman, and you're over 40 (heck even in your 30's)...I suggest you bring yourself back down to earth. LOL
daphne Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 And the ones where they say "I can't believe I'm doing this" as if they're too good for OLD and everyone on there is a sad bastard. That makes me giggle.
