What does Schizophrenic mean?

What exactly does Schizophrenic mean?

 

I've heard it can mean believing people are watching

 

you like the CIA or being paranoid all the time and/or

 

talking to yourself.

 

I've read several books, websites etc. But none of them

 

give a clear answer to my question.

 

I have a co-Worker who is constantly talking to herself,

 

Believes the dude in her apartment building sends people

 

out to watch her at work and seems to make up a lot

 

of stories about her and Metallica, and how they write all

 

their songs about her, she's said this stuff with a straight face

 

for the past 2 years i've known her. YET, she can operate and perform her job

 

perfectly. She's 32 years old and I worry about her.

She sounds paranoid and may or may not be schizophrenic. Schizophrenia can't be explained in a sentence or two. There is a heap of information at this site, including some videos
