I have a situation that I am left seriously lost! I am an adult male with dental braces for an extensive time. The orthodontist mistakenly flared out my teeth making them much worse, (protruding). He consistently denied this happened which wore on me and greatly prolonged my treatment. It came to the point that I was second guessing what he would tell me for a tx plan, because I knew he was denying the mistake and the trust was shaken. I sought another ortho to finish up the work. However, this ortho does not use the advanced technique that I've learned I need to keep my back teeth from shifting forward ( anchors).

Now, my teeth are rapidly moving forward causing great protrusion and massive constant headaches! MY first ortho is the only one in this area who specializes in the needed anchors (I did not realize their significance in my tx until now). SO...what to do? I need some advice on this please. Should I write to my first ortho explaining why I switched , asking if he would accept me to bring my molars back again and continue the work? He was paid alraedy, and I will owe the new one ,I hope he will pro rate since I just started with him. Anyone have any ideas? Do you think the first would re-start treatment after I left and another ortho had put on HIS wires? It is a very touchy situation. I've lost sleep over this cuz my teeth continue to move for the worst and soooo much $ has already been spent. As last resort, I guess I can seek out yet another ortho who works with anchors but no one is near and that is a whole new cost, and I don't know how much my teeth can take! I am truly at a loss and need some advice, please! Anyone work at a dentist or ortho? suggestions?????????

You need to find a lawyer who specialises in medical situations, because I see this as a malpractice situation.

The first dentist messed up, the second should never have touched your your mouth, if he could't reproduce the treatment...

thanks for the reply. Yes, but every ortho has their own style and tx method, this new one had very good intentions and actually suggested I stay with the first one to finish up. I was just very mistrusting when the first ortho would not admit the error, I am still unsure if he really didnt realize(due to being so busy) or he was covering it up . Either way, it was difficult to continue for that reason. The second one, just did the tx as is familiar to him. I know now that I NEED the anchors in my tx. Dental negligence cases can be costly, very long and very difficult to prove per my research. I am actually worried about the case at hand, what and how to go about correcting my teeth . I may look later into seeking an attorney. But how would you go about addressing the teeth now?

I'd go back to the second dentist, tell him you're not happy with the way your teeth are moving, and discuss the correct procedure to get what you want.

Straight teeth, with no gaps, and no overbite.

How old are you, exactly?

(And I would STILL seek out a legal opinion, if only for a preliminary consultation.)

48 yrs. but teeth still pretty healthy (for the most part). So, even though you see now that the anchors are a must in my treatment and the current orthodontist does not and will not use them, would you go back to the first ortho and try to get back there for tx? My current ortho I have learned is not as creative, more conventional with his tx. He seems unwilling to learn a new way. I did not know how crucial the anchors where until I am not using them. Legal consult, originally, i was 100% on board, but I really don't know if I want to initiate that if I may HAVE to try to use this orthodontist again since he is the one here who specializes in the use of anchors. Do you know what I am saying?
