Question for women! What do you find attractive about a man?

I'm a straight man, and I always wondered why most women are physically attracted to men. What makes them physically attracted to them?

Instinct. The species must continue. But underneath it, I'd say that there's a lot of women who are attracted to women. In my experience, many girls have told me they aren't interested, only to find out that isn't quite the truth.

While I'm not physically attracted to most men, and even my husband doesn't have that "OMG you're so hot" thing going on, I've managed to have three kids. When it is time for me to ovulate, his normally good pheromones become irresistible. The species must continue.

My childhood best friend and I always joked that if it were possible to make babies together we'd be lesbians instead of looking for husbands.

So yeah. Babies.

I dunno if "most" women are hetero, but hetero women are attracted to men because they're, well, hetero... It's the literal definition of the term, lol.

Are you asking for a description of what masculine features are appealing to hetero women?

Well, that would be because you are heterosexual.

Despite a lot of pressure throughout my life to be bi - I am just not interested in women in the slightest.

I find breasts kinda bizarre, I never want to get anywhere near another woman’s vagina - I mean honestly I have no idea how men can be attracted to those - yikes!!

I am not into touching soft squishy bodies, I just don’t get it!!

I am MUCH more likely to watch gay porn than lesbian porn. I know I am a bit unusual in this, but it’s not unheard of.

Now men? I love the smell of a healthy man, a masculine walk. Strong hands, muscles, oh I swoon over broad shoulders. There is no better place to sleep than my head on his big strong chest - complete with a bit of chest hair.

I love the way a man feels - I am constantly touching my husband, his thick muscular arms, his powerful hands. I love gazing at his face, his strong features.

A good looking man reminds me of a beautiful horse.

And yes, in the end biology - I can say nature wired me to be attracted to men, despite my conscience choice to never reproduce.

I think with a question like this it's wise to remember that every woman's a bit different and so there are really no one-size-fits-all answers or approaches for men. The good thing about that, I think, is there are many ways for men to be attractive (or at least acceptable) as mates.

My belief (with the caveat that I"m a guy) is that it isn't all physical attraction. So for example confidence, self-sufficiency, having special skills or talents, having the respect of a community, personality, and other non-physical things can all make one attractive.

Some women may wish to correct me here, but my belief is these kinds of things may often be as attractive, when it comes to LTRs, as physical characteristics (provided that one doesn't have major negative physical issues that counteract them).

It's funny because I recognise multiple kinds of male attractiveness.

There's guys that I look at and I'm like "dang, that is very Mainstream Hot" but not personally my taste. Which doesn't mean I'm not attracted to it, just that it's not what I would pick as my go-to. These are often the "chiseled jaw line" guys that I think would be cast as hot men in movies/TV.

Take this dude for example: https://66.media.tumblr.com/759d9fe44232a82b5f796cbd3291d061/tumblr_njgsrbE69A1u2fws9o1_400.png

(Paul from Orphan Black)

The audience is very clearly meant to find him Ruggedly Handsome. Strong, capable, confident, masculine, successful, fit, intelligent, clean-living. He's even got nice eyes.

I can recognise that this is hot, and even be somewhat physically attracted to it, but I also find it offputting because it doesn't hit my personal taste kinks.

The ability to recognise what's mainstream hot even if it's not your thing is associated with the ability to judge things like fashion and status. You can tell that other people like X, so you can determine that X is clearly the hot thing, even if you don't dig it. You can hate video games and still be able to work out that one video game is probably better than another by comparing their traits to the traits of games that players appear to like more.

You won't always be right. I don't know if other women in this thread will look at that picture and go "Him? Hot? Are you crazy?" But I'm pretty sure he's meant to be seen as hot.

Now, why am I attracted to men? ... Well, sex helps, I enjoy sex, they need the man parts to perform that task correctly. :D

I also enjoy exploring the ways our bodies are different. I like to touch male chests that have a little bit of muscle definition. Not rock-hard, I don't want to grope a rock, but I want to feel how his chest is not like mine. I love the look of male backs, the flow of muscle/body there. Arms, again, the muscles tend to be different, that's fun to touch and explore.

I like butts but I think I like male and female butts equally, everybody's got a butt. They're all cute.

Hair, I don't care. I like long hair on guys. I also like super short so I can play with it because I've never had super-short hair. I usually prefer a clean-shaven look but some guys look good with beards.

A lot of attractiveness is hard to pin down. I can see a man and go "He's not hot but he's SUPER CUTE" and not be able to explain why. He looks... nice? He looks like he laughs a lot, and like he's kind but not cringing, he looks comfortable in his own skin? He looks like he'd be good company?

Someone who looks like he knows what he wants and is confident in pursuing it is attractive IF the things he is pursuing are things I'm into. Like, someone who's super confident about mountain-climbing? Great, good for you, have a nice life. I don't care. Drive and ambition are not compelling factors by themselves alone. It needs to be an ambition that I want to get on board with!

You don't see how men are attractive because you are a heterosexual man. Heterosexual women see it differently.

I'm not usually one for masculine features. However, strength and loyalty go a long ways with me. My husband actually skipped a half-day from his job today. The reason? I've been sick, and I fell asleep in his arms on the couch last night at about 3am and he didn't want to move me! I know it probably made his arms sore to do it, but he knows me so well he can do the things I need without asking.

I've told this story before on the forums but I'll toss it out there again.

In college, I was wallowing over a breakup and had been for a few weeks. A friend of mine who was 5'8'', nearly 300lbs and bald stormed into my room like Matt Foley and told me to get off my a-- and that we were going out. He told me he was tired of watching me feel sorry for myself and that we were going to have some fun.

He made a bet with me that night; we were going to hit up every bar in town and try to get as many phone numbers from women as we could. No cheesy pick up lines or shady crap; simply walk up to them, strike up a conversation, maybe buy them a drink and get a phone number. We'd compare the tally of phone numbers we got at the end of the night. The "winner" would owe the other bottle of good bourbon.

Around 2am, we crawled home and tallied phone numbers. He had picked up twice as many numbers as I had. Bear in mind that, at the time, I was a 21 year old fitness freak who'd hadn't been described as "hard on the eyes". But, my friend had two qualities that I lacked: charisma and self-confidence.

Not all women, I think, but I'm probably one of the beer-goggle wearers. I mean, look at my #1 celebrity crush, Benedict Cumberbatch. Seriously, if you showed me a picture of that guy with zero context and I'd never seen him before, my response would probably be, "Wtf?" :lmao: But throw in a few choice acting roles and a delicious voice and manner of speech, and we have a winner...

Wohooo,

Where do I start?

Nice broad shoulders, strong arms, big capable hands, strong jawline, air of confidence...

Sorry, I can't carry on much more because I'm getting hot and bothered but if you look at the Prime Minister of Hungary you'll see what I mean - Viktor Orban.

(My husband knows I have the hots for him and as he has the hots for Chris Evert we call it quits)

Phew....

Yep. I often wonder how long those women who insist on good looks and height will be single.

What attracts me is a smile, good conversation and an ability to have fun. The hormones take over from there and the physical attraction starts.
