I thought he would get tired of her because she is younger and very pretty and she would move on to someone younger and prettier too and then he would come back and we could be together again even though the kids have left home we could still be a family but he is still with her and I don't know how to get him back.

You don't. They come back because they want to.

If someone comes back outside of their own free will you can be pretty sure they will leave again. If someone decides not to be with you, just the way you are, they aren't worth trying to get back anyways.
