I now know the reason for our break, the real reason.

It wasn't a great affinity for another. It wasn't anything either of us said or did. On a subconscious and conscious level both of us knew graduation was coming for me. We both knew on a subconscious level that we would either seal very close together or be very far apart after that.

So we took actions that placed distance between us.

When after I defended my thesis I was still around her demeanor towards me turned right around like they would still want to talk to me, all the body language and furtive looks as before but we could not speak. (Some guys might count such a situation as a net positive the woman not talking).

Then I was done with my revisions and that was it. It feels much better to me to have come out of the initial depression of loss and being able to see things clearly now. It wasn't her, it wasn't me, it was the deadline that all such relationships as ours have to either make or break.
