When I'm down I actually find myself listening to a lot of the rubbish rap stuff...

people like Jay Z, Kayne, MM etc.... and only for this reason:

They have an ego the size of earth, and you can't help but feel better about things, and start strutting about.... :lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

Big swagger rap and hip-hop is my favorite workout music. :D It gets me very pumped up and really pushing myself.

After my divorce I made a misogynistic mix tape but I see why that would not suit you well.

Just listen to some fun songs that you enjoy. The best thing for me was travelling with some guys to Montreal listening to some old school rock.

I have a Spotify breakup list called "You Oughta Now" with 350 songs. I'll spare you from posting the whole list here :D but here is the main title:

as you can tell from my song choice, I'm not big on 'wallowing' and playing dirges which focus on the "Woe is me, you're gone, my life is ended, it has no meaning...."

Blah, blah bloody blah.

You lived and functioned perfectly well without them before, why create dysfunction by halting the process now?

Jeesh!

I thought I’d post 2 songs I did myself (I’m a singer – songwriter in my spare time) for anyone interested…

This one is called Stray Hairs. I wrote it back last June when my now-ex left me for a month after he got really sick and didn’t think we could be together anymore. I didn’t give up hope but was very depressed by it all, as evidenced in the song.

This one I did last week, a month after my ex cut off all contact with me and left me for good. It’s called Shattered Glass.

This one is so bitchy and great. "You brazen hussy!" lol

Nice, I like your voice! I'm a hobby musician, too, and played guitar and sang for about half an hour tonight. I wrote my first song in ages a few weeks ago, after my biggest fight with the ex. I was glad that at least I got a song out of it. I sang it about 10 times tonight. It's not bad - dark and sexy

Thank you!

You should post your song here. :)

I actually quite like that Mumford & Sons song, I Will Wait. But it does make me sad now.

So many good ones heres a few more.

Lesson In Leavin' Lyrics by Jo Dee Messina - YouTube

This ones a bit mushy, but i've always loved this song, long before it had a meaning to me. Some days i've probably listened to it 100 times, it never gets old.

A bit mushy to, but very good also.

I'm sad today, and I know it's gonna get worse once the sun goes down. So tonight, I need to dance my troubles away to some good breakup music. I'll get us started...

Natalie Imbruglia & Portishead - Leave me Alone - YouTube

Woah! A Natalie Imbruglia/Portishead mashup! Thank you for sharing! :)

I saw Portishead in 2011. It was one of the single most amazing experiences I've ever had.

Phantogram - Mouthful Of Diamonds

Wake up, you're gettin' high on your own supply

Oh, baby, you're still alive when you could've died, oh

The world is not around because of you

You know I'm not around because of you

You've got a mouthful of diamonds

And a pocketful of secrets

I know you're never telling anyone

Because the patterns they control your mind

Those patterns take away my time

Hello, goodbye

Wasted, you tell the truth when you could've lied

And troubles are on the rise cuz you're in disguise, oh

And if it isn't me then pack your bags and leave

I wish I could believe those devils won't take you back

Out to the salty sea

You've got a mouthful of diamonds

And a pocketful of secrets

I know you're never telling anyone

Because the patterns they control your mind

Those patterns take away my time

Hello, goodbye

I wish I could believe...

I really like Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive." It's probably the most empowering break-up song, and resonates so much with my experience, especially with my first break-up with my ex... I was listening to it over and over again, after my first break-up, up to a minute before he rang me and wanted to get back together with me.

GG's "I will survive!" is a mega-gay anthem....having several gay friends, I haven't ever been to any social party gathering with them, where it wasn't played....

'they' have even devised a whole dance routine to it... and as Gloria sings -

"Go on now, GO!"... they interject with a resounding "Phuuuk-off!"

"Go on now, GO!"

("Phuuuk-off!")

"Walk out the door....!"

and so on....

Man, they're so funny.....!

this one got me through a fair bit of heartbreaks and got me the ideea to add 'dysfunction' to the great mental picture i had of the one that hurt me ... so i could get over her

Manowar - Heart Of Steel - YouTube

awesome one

pretty close to a true breakup song, very depressive

this one is good right after, like a bandaid

this is a tad better for the same purpose

and this one when you cycle into anger :p

I generally tend to prefer 'man up' and 'get over it, f*ck it' type of breakup music right after it. Doesn't help that metal [which i go to by default] doesn't have many true breakup songs. The emotional stuff is for later when i 'get over it'.

PS: I will survive and the one from My Fair Lady are pure awesome. :)
