Glove_slap
I find myself dancing to songs about heart break and lost long loves. I kinda of fight off the thoughts of my ex and sort of embrace the pain/past. I don't it sounds really really cheesy and weird but it kinda feels good like these songs were meant to be danced too. Well songs like Do you by Neyo, No Ordinary Love by Sade, Wrapped around your finger by The Police and others. Is this a healthy sign or am I causing more self harm? loool

I used to always listen to Sting's Why Should I Cry For You and Sinead O'Connors Nothing Compares To You, over and over again. Couldn't dance to it but sometimes I needed to feel my feelings and let it out. Just me, though.
january2011
I think it depends on the stage you're at. In my expeirence, the slow ones are great for the early stages when you need something more soothing. But as you heal and go through the angry period, you need songs that have a faster beat, perhaps slightly angrier, more 'I don't need you any more' and less melancholic. Then, when the fog starts to lift, you need more hopeful songs that celebrate how great it is to be alive.
wilsonx
Nice, you enjoy feeling the pain. It reminds you you are alive after being numb for so long?
Author Glove_slap
Nice, you enjoy feeling the pain. It reminds you you are alive after being numb for so long? That's exactly it, I feel alive again. Singing along with these songs/dancing with them gives me the "i know exactly what this song is talking about" it makes me connect to the pain of a heart break and appreciate it. There's a beauty in a heartbreak that not many people see. Kind of like how many people think the winter or a really rainy day is depressing or ugly but even then there is a sort of beauty in a snowy/rainy day with itself.
Sing
Slower songs for us to sob along too.. The Script is a favourite. Faster ones when were in the anger stage.. belting out that Kelly Clarkson classic what makes you stronger! It sounds okay to me.. Try Gonna get over you by Sara Bareilles, thats my favourite to dance along too I agree with the above post, embracing the pain makes you feel alive.
Gulf-Delta
I listened to one of "our" albums...Blue by Joni Mitchell....whole album is about heartbreak. I never thought I'd be able to relate to what she was singing about....but I do now. Somethings I still can't listen to...songs I used to sing to my ex...Prince songs (our favorite musician) like "Let's Have a Baby" "Most Beautiful Girl In The World" or "When two are in Love".....Still can't listen to stuff like Stevie Wonder because we used to make love to a lot of his music like "You and I" and "Golden Lady".... I can't listen to lots of stuff, but I know one day I will...I'm a musician myself who wrote songs for my ex...I don't know if I'll ever be able to listen to those songs again :/ One song that really lifted me up was Isley Brothers' "Walk Your Way". Explains exactly how I feel.
