Meeting new people

Recommended Posts

Lately I have been feeling very lonely and bored. I usually have somebody to talk to when I begin to feel this way but everybody I know is busy. (I have a very small social group)

I want to make a new connection with somebody but I can't seem to find somebody who I want to put my effort in. Usually when I make a friend I try to invest as much energy in them as possible.

I am trying to get out more but I get very anxious and exhausted when I am in public and surrounded by too many strangers.

Advice please? :)

Join a gym, meet up groups, churches have singles groups (at least mine does), so that helps. Volunteer at the local food pantry or whatever agency you want to volunteer for. Ask your own friends what they do for it. I had a friend who invited me to things out once I told her I felt isolated after my former friends stopping talking to me (well more like I stopped talking to them for adding drama). Grab your friends and go downtown for drinks (just don't go home with anyone or that will give them the wrong idea (if you want friends of the opposite sex). I've been studying at starbucks during my master programs for when I feel lonely. The baristas I've gotten to know. It's really what you're into, but staying in is not helping.

Aha.. I guess hoping to stumble across an interesting person when you are a shut in is a bit too hopeful..

Thank you for your advice. I will look into volunteering. :)
