How do you deal with a passive aggressive roomy?

Recommended Posts

Currently I'm having issues with my roommate.

  • When there is an issue, instead of texting me about it she leaves a note. I toldher she can text me if she can't catch me. She still leaves the note.
  • My hair sheds, so instead of doing my hair in the bathroom I do it in my room and sweep and clean as much as possible. Once-twice a week I clean, the next day (afterwards) she complains and tells me it's not clean and asks me to do it again.
  • She likes the AC in the mid 60 and I , mid 70s. So, I leave it in the middle. 69-70. But she continues to put it on low to mid 60. When I talked to her about it she said the fan in her room isn't enough.

I honestly can't do it anymore. I'm sure she may feel the same about me, but I'm trying my best. When I talk to her about issues, nothing changes. At the moment, I haven't talked to her about anything because I don't know how to access the situation anymore. Another thing I would like to note is I have severe anxiety, so once I do figure it out how to talk to her it doesn't happen right away. I don't know if I'm being over dramatic or not in this situation. But I've come to a point where I want to live by myself...

You get over the note thing. She's not a texter

Can you get a window AC in her room? Why should you make the whole house cold for her & run up the bill.

Just keep doing what you are doing in terms of your hair & cleaning. That's her problem.

BTW, fwiw, I don't see any of her as passive aggressive. She's being clear in what her expectations are. You two just don't agree.

You have decided that you want to live by yourself. That's good.

Give your roommate 30 days notice that you will be moving out. That gives you both enough time to find her a new roommate, and you to find your own place. Make sure to let your landlord know that you'll be moving out too, once you have found a roommate to take your place.

It does sound like you two have different expectations, which makes you incompatible as roommates.

Since you have severe anxiety, and your roommate likes to leave you notes when you ask her to text, maybe you could leave her a note that you have decided to find your own place and give her your notice. Ask her to sit down and talk to you in person about this, so that you two can agree that this is the best decision for your situation.

Note = understandable. Well, I guess I was being a tad overdramtaic in that aspect.

I live in a dorm, so we share everything except a room.

You live in a dorm, you can request a new roommate. I did that one time and ended up with my own room. You might not be that lucky. But explain the situation with her keeping it freezing in there. Maybe they can move you.
