OLD Faux Pas

Last week I logged back on to my OkCupid profile for the first time in months. Mostly because I'd like a date for a show I'm going to in a few weeks but I've kind of given up on that notion.

Anyways, I get a 4 star match alert thing from some really cute, seemingly equally eccentric guy several years older than me. So I decided to message him but I am the worst and always say something incredibly awkward so naturally I had to outdo myself this time seeing as I am pretty attracted to this guy.

In his "most private thing" section he talks about bodily functions. I won't elaborate. It was weird but funny, so I messaged him saying something along the lines of "it was pretty ballsy of you to admit that." Yeah, and no response.

Haha I'm honestly not at all surprised but I just can't seem to stop making these stupid remarks whenever talking to guys on there. If I'm chatting with someone I don't find attractive, I'm usually fine but as soon as I find someone attractive, forget about it. In person I don't do that. I just go super awkward with OLD.

Anyone else with this problem?

Meet people out in the real world. But how can you even be sure he read the message? People who are "great matches" often have last logged in dates that are months old.

Regardless, you were just being you and if he didnt' like it then you avoided a bad match. Congrats, for not wasting any time with someone who didn't have a mutual attraction.

Some girls aren't really used to having to be the initiator so it's kind of funny to see what they come up with when they message a guy.

Here's how I break down messages I get from girls:

Good

- Funny/unique/interesting comment and question about the profile

- Funny/unique/interesting comment

- Trivial question ("How's your week been") with personality shown

Tolerable

- "Hey, we both like x and y"

- Trivial question with little to no personality shown

- "Hey, I don't normally message guys but I thought I'd give it a shot." (Translates to "I don't want to put any thought into this myself, so please think of something and say it to me.")

Probably Not Responding

- Trivial question with no personality shown, simple word misspelled, or use of "r" or "u"

- Pre-written mass message

I can tell you that guys (at least me, anyways) are more likely to respond to an interesting question rather than just a statement. A question is more of a prompt for response and it shows that you're taking an interest.

I'm more of the shy, quiet, nerdy type so I'm an expert at creating awkward situations during conversations.. both online and off.. :o

I tend to over think the crap out of first contact messages online and end up dragging on to long..

I also apparently really need to work on my flirting skills..

Ah, the joys of social ineptitude...

In his "most private thing" section he talks about bodily functions.

That's one reason I absolutely refuse to date women who have kids. Many moms are obsessed with their kids' bowel habits.
