Just friends or possibly more?

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I'm dealing with a bit of a conundrum, I'm sure it's like many that have been posted before, but just putting it down in words may help me!

I met a girl, I guess I'll call her Emma, about a year and a half a go now, we were both sharing accommodation whilst on holiday (a festival of sorts), along with another group of people who were already friends. As this group of friends were socialising together, me and Emma were hanging out together a fair bit, general drinks, chats, dinner etc.

We kept in contact since then, through facebook and text messaging, I lived overseas from Emma, but we would meet for a catch up when I was in London, where she's based.

As that is where most of my work is situated, I'd been wanting to move there for a few years now and finally in the past few months I've actually plucked up the courage! (Go me!)

Anyway, obviously, I have a thing for Emma, ever since I met her she's been in my thoughts, our personalities and demeanor are very similar and, in my eyes, seem well suited, but that doesn't necessarily mean that both of us are interested in more than friends!

I'd rather have her as a friend than nothing at all, but sometimes when I'm with her there are certain things that have left me curious as to whether I should pursue things a bit more.

As an example, she recently invited me to a party she was co-hosting, it was to be fairly big, but due to circumstances, the party was cancelled the night before. Instead I was invited along to a small get together with her friends and some of her family. I found that she seemed to look at me quite a lot (this really seems bizarre now I'm typing this out), even when we're chatting to different people, I often see her, in my peripheral vision, staring at me. I'd say that she was just being a good host, making sure I was okay, but I've noticed this at other occasions we've been at together. She also makes constant eye contact with me when she's talking to everyone or laughing at something.

What she does is definitely not my imagination, but what it means could be nothing, it's just not behaviour I've experienced that hasn't meant more, but there's a first time for everything! I wouldn't want to ruin a friendship or at the very least make it weird by presuming something that isn't.

Any insight or reality check would be appreciated!

B
