My BF is an identical twin...some questions

My very serious BF is an identical twin. His twin is single and they co-own a bar, so there is usually a good bit of drinking going on during the weekends. The twin and I became good friends, which seemed very cool at first. Then my BF and I started having some problems, and instead of the twin saying things like " my brothers a great guy and he really loves you, try and work it out etc." He told me HORRIBLE things about his brother, which I belived because why would your family, your identical twin, say such bad things if they weren't true ?!!!!?? Then, he started hitting on me. I was SICK over this, and finally one night I told my BF, and all our friends backed me up. Now they hate each other and the twin hates me for telling. Any advice and or has anybody dealt with anything similar ?
