Oh, San Francisco is so romantic!! I just moved from there after living there for 6 years...there's a lovely view around every corner. If you can, rent a car and drive to Twin Peaks at sunset...and take the ferry to Sausalito...

Anybody have any suggestions because we plan on doing some sight seeing before the wedding? She grew up in San Fran and her family is there so that is why we are having it there.

My favorite place in SF is the Botannical Gardens in Golden Gate Park. It's beautiful any time of year, and is very romantic to walk through. There's a Japanese Tea Garden nearby, which makes for a nice break, plus Japanese Garden is gorgeous. They've also re-opened the Conservatory in the Park, complete with butterfly garden.

As I mentioned, a ferry to Sausalito is a lot of fun. Dinner at the Cliff House is lovely - arrange ahead of time for a table near the windows so you can see the sunset. The food's ok, but the Ocean view is what you go there for.

(Don't forget to bring sweaters and/or light jackets. It's July, but SF is chilly no matter what time of year it is).

If you're downtown, they've completely renovated the Ferry Building at Market St. and the Embarcadero. It's a great place to get lunch and do a little gourmet food shopping.

If you'd like a nearly private view of the city with a little bit of hiking, go to Mt. Davidson (that's the hill with the giant cross on top). It gets less press than Twin Peaks, but it has an amazing view and there's a short hike up through eucalyptus trees to get the top. You'll only run into a few people walking their dogs. There are many entrances to the trails, but you can find one off Portola Drive at Miraloma.

Then there's Napa, of course. A drive north along Pacific Coast Highway is breathtaking. You can also take a day trip to Carmel or Monterey...

Also a very easy day trip is going up to the top of Mt. Tam (views and hiking trails), or down to Muir Woods...gorgeous, stunning redwoods and easy trails through, or you can take some of the more challenging ones. Mt. Tam and Muir Woods are just on the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge, so very close to the city, but you feel like you're in another world.

Be sure to hit up The View Lounge at the top of the San Francisco Marriott at night for a couple drinks. That place is pimp.

I haven't been there in a while, but China Town was always fun and funky. Lots to do in Golden Gate Park - the Tea Room IS beautiful.

What a great city to get married in! San Fran is my favorite place. Mark Twain once wrote that the coldest winter he ever spent was summer in San Francisco -- do bring a jacket!

There is always the traditional Fisherman's Wharf (Stop at Boudin's and get some sour dough bread - Yummy!) and Pier 39. If you have time take one of the bus tours and take another day to visit Alcatraz. It is AWESOME!

If you do the bus tour first you will be able to pick out some spots that appeal to you and go back for a longer visit. You can get tickets for any of the bus tours in hotel lobbies. Gray Line has one that they advertise heavily, but it's not any better than the others and is a bit more expensive than a lot of them.

If you want to venture out of San Francisco for a while drive to Big Trees and Jamestown. It's a bit of a drive, but worth the trip. You could combine it with some of the wine tasting tours.

I don't know if Lombard street is open for traffic anymore - but it was a hoot when we drove it. We commented that all the flowers were there marking where all the tourists went off the road!

Cable cars are for tourists - they are expensive and slow but a must for a visitor! I hope your legs are strong - lots of walking UP and DOWN and UP and Down and...

Is the Chocolate factory still open? (for the life of me I can't remember the name of the chocolate! I'm sure someone else here knows) I'm not a fan of chocolate, but that was a pretty cool place. If you LOVE chocolate you can also tour the Hershey plant - but it's a way outside of San Francisco. Talk about chocolate overload! They take you by bus from the souvineer shop/Hershey museum to the factory and the air is thick with the smell of chocolate and sugar.

If on your trip you go anywhere near San Jose you MUST visit the Winchester Mystery House. It's the only thing IN San Jose worth seeing!

There are also charter boats that will take you out on the bay. That can get expensive depending on what tour you take or if you charter a boat yourself. (and if the sea lions have left any docks functioning!)

My advice to all soon to be brides is... snip those ribbons on the inside of your dress that are meant to hold it on the hanger. I was convinced (by my mother) to just "tuck 'em in" so I can hang my dress at the end of the evening... great advise mom!! One snuck out and all of my formal wedding shots have the freakin' ribbon poking out under my arm.
