Therapy?

I posted earlier about my relationship with my boyfriend being "suspended":

http://www.loveshack.org/forums/t90364/

We've since gone to a counselor. The counselor told us that we didn't seem to have any communication problems. He thought that the problem lay in my boyfriend's past - his parents fought a lot and divorced when he was eight. The problems the therapist mentioned were things my bf and I have discussed before, such as his feeling he doesn't deserve success, so he doesn't actively seek it. He wants my bf to go in for hypnotherapy sessions.

Has anyone had any experience with this? Does it work?

I love my bf, and I would like to spend the rest of my life with him, but not as the way things have been going so far. He wants to change, he just doesn't seem able to.

Maybe I'm just grasping at straws. I don't know anymore.
