Question Dating a Former Teacher?

I have an interest in a teacher at my school, and it is my intent to wait until no one is compromised legally, ethically, or socially before I make my desire for a potential relationship known, but I'm not really sure where to start when the appropriate time arrives. It's not really anything that strange - he's only a few years older than me. If we'd met under conditions other than my volunteering in his class during my spare, age wouldn't have been an issue. Any suggestions? I would prefer not to have to take a blatant approach to a delicate issue.

I would like to make it clear that I do not necessarily expect it to go anywhere because I do not know him, only the persona he presents publicly, but would be interested to find out if there were potential there for friendship or a relationship.
