Attractiveness in men over 40?

What makes (or would make) a man over 40 attractive and sexy?
What are common mistakes that make them unattractive?
What's the appeal factor to women of each age group?

I've kept myself fit. I groom myself better. I'm more naturally friendly then I was at 21.

I dress casual neat, but sometimes wear jeans so my bum can be admired.
I'm financially more secure than at 21, and feel more relaxed because of it.
I don't dye my grays.

I look at least my age. I'm not as vigorous as 21. I've settled into a comfortable pattern (read set in ways?) Maybe I'm somewhat jaded.

What you said about yourself is sexy enough. Being who you are, more secure, more settled in life, experienced and relaxed. (most) Women over 30 really don't want a man who is still 'finding' themselves at 40. Keep your humour, live life as it hits you and stay young at heart, always!

As long as you're willing to do abit of changing, compromising but still be you, that's good.

I'm married and 35 years old, but if I was single and looking age really wouldn't be an issue with me.

Independant, finanically secure, knows what he wants, proper manners, great sense of humor would be desired and expected in a OFM. Should be able to have good skills in the sheets!

Acting like they are 21 years old. Trying to be what they are not.

I have never dated below my age. I have always been more mature myself so not tolerant of immature people at all.

I like a salt and pepper headed man...... no matter what the age. You sound like you would not go into my "no way in hell" pile!

BALD is sexy. Seriously. I love a shaved head or a naturally bald head. My best girlfriend feels exactly the same way.

I know some women don't, but all women are different.

A smile is sexy. So are crinkles around the eyes.

A sense of humour. A man who is able to laugh at himself. Nothing worse than a pompous bag of hot air who takes everything way too seriously

Some older men have really learned how to be friends with a woman; this is so awesome! As romance waxes and wanes, as it does with all relationships, you still have that solid sense of "I'm with my best friend" when you're together.

Streaks of gray are sexy. So are glasses. A man should look his age. That doesn't mean he has to look old. He should try to stay fit, keep in shape, eat right and excercise.
I've seen some gray-haired men who are toned and fit, dressed well and who carry themselves with confidence....who were so sexy I was hard pressed not to run up to them and rip their clothes off!

But don't try to dress like a college kid, talk like a teenager or try to hang on to your 'rocker' hair. It looks pathetic.

Personally, I'd rather date someone in my age range. When I was 20, i related better to men in their 20's. Now I'm 30, thus looking for men in their 30's. When I'm 40, i'll be looking for men in their 40's. I dont think age has any bearing on if you can date, but maybe if you are looking at women not in your age group, you'll have a more difficult time.

Hi WWIU,

I like the "live life as it hits you" very consise, till now It would take me 10 minutes to relay that sentiment.

The young at heart needs disecting. What would be examples of this?

I've stayed within 5 years of my age. We all see the May-December, or maybe June- Oct couples now and then. So clearly some younger will date older.

I wonder what those younger women find attractive about the mature gents. I'm speaking of average people, not a young actress or Anna Nicole Smith with clear motives.

I've never approached younger women. I don't think I've picked up on any signals from them. Of course I haven't been looking for those signals.

Thank You, Thank You Thank You.

I never thought about the glasses, my eyes are still functioning without them, so far.

I have a bad habit of smiling without showing my teeth. My teeth are nice too. I don't feel natural flashing the teeth unless I'm laughing.

I find 5 years is a good range. Of course everyone is different and some women relate very well to older men. But i think this relates to mental age and maturity. I'm mature in some areas of my life, and immature in others. I still prefer to wear jeans, whereas my exh wears dress pants. I'd prefer to go to an amusement park and he'd prefer to stay at home listening to gregorian chants sipping wine. At times, I felt he was a little too old for me, although he was only a year older.

Then I dont think age is the issue. There's always someone out there who is attracted to what we have. We just need to be confident in ourselves regardless of how old we are.

I'm just a few months shy of 60 and my wife is only two years younger than I am. Thankfully, she likes me just the way I am -- character lines, gray and silver, thinning hair, (with just enough brown left for me to remember what color it used to be) and the requisite glasses. I was 45 when we met, 50 when we married, and time has done its thing to both of us.

My wife describes me as "ruggedly good looking" and loves me for who I am. I can't ask for anything more.

As for younger women, some have expressed interest over the years but no thanks. It has to be my confidence, self-assuredness and "success" (within my profession), as well as my good vocabulary and melodic, well-modulated and rather deep speaking voice they're attracted to.

Whatever! I find many women of any reasonable age attractive but for the long-haul, my own age group is far preferred and I'm perfectly content with the "old woman" I share my life, love and dreams with.
