maintaining weight

Im female, 5'10, normaly153lbs, (size 4-6)I eat fast food and other unheathy snacks to gain weight. I am currently at 176lbs, size 8-10, but sleepy and lack energy so i supplement with red bull (bad I know, but gets me though the day). I count calories to make sure my intake is at least double than what i am expending.(I have a very active job and burn lots of calories)I like my current size and want to keep my weight up without the help from suffing myself with fastfood. How do I do this?

Well, first of all, you'll not get a lot of sympathy from many people since most have the opposite problem.

One pound is 3500 calories. To maintain your weight, you have to consume 3500 calories for every 3500 you burn. You may have to study your body for several weeks to determine just where you are. The key is to eat daily so the amount of calories you burn and the amount you eat reconcile with the 3500 number. You do the math.

I think your best bet is just to weigh yourself every few days and make adjustments to your diet and activity levels to accomodate your weight goals. I totally agree to need to get away from nasty fast food entres. There are many foods in the grocery store that are healthy that will add calories to your diet. Better yet, go to a health food store and get some weight gain supplements that are balanced nutritionally that you can take intermittently when you really need a boost upward.

Gawd, I wish I had your problem!

Not looking for sympathy, just advice.
have you tried these weight gainers? will it make me tired as the 3 big macs per day do. they are like sleeping pills, I eat one and I want to go right to sleep. Can you recommend healthy foods?

Any weight gain products in a health food store will contain proper nutrients and the right balance of foods. Almost anything on the planet will be better than fast food with all kinds of trans fats and preservatives.

I suggest you put "weight gain" in the search field of your favorite search engine. You will get a wealth of great information. I hesitate to recommend particular foods to you because some foods work better for some people...depending on their metabolism.

I didn't mean to put anything in my post above that even remotely indicated a desire to convey sympathy to you.

You feel like crap because you are eating like crap. Cut the fast food out and start eating complex carbs and quality protein. Whole grains, rice, lean beef, fish, ect... Avoid simple sugars and white bread. Spread your meals out during the day and make lunch your largest meal. Proper nutition, ecercise and quality sleep (in bed early, wake up early) will make a huge difference in your energy level, and you can still maintain the large calorie demands you have.

The thing you have to remember is that there is no such thing is bulk. It's either fat or muscle. Carrying around 20 lbs of fat just to look a certain way isn't really healthy.

B-

I know how you feel, as I have recently been sooo happy to be able to keep 10 extra pounds on.

In the past two days though I have lost three.

I have to have so much caloric intake to gain it is frustrating.

Even though I am naturally very muscley, when I start to lose and go out, people ask me if "I'm okay"?

I hate that - I guess if they were really fat others wouldn't respond that way.

Anyway I have to eat four times as much to keep weight on these days... I don't do fast foods though.

I just read Mattbs' post.

I guess this week I will load up on lean steaks, potatoes and rice and weigh myself at the end of the week to see how that works out.

Good luck Butafly, keep us posted. I too am always struggling to maintain my weight and I too eat fast foods to maintain. Lately I have started buying Ensure and Boost drinks and drink them like 3-4 times/day. I pick the ones with the highest amounts of calories.

don't weight yourself at the end of the week.

If you notice something, it won't be from what you ate. Give yourself 2 or 3 weeks. The only thing that will change enough to be noticed after a week is water weight, which fluctuates every day.
