Angry No education equals No support !!!

Even though they met him and fell in love with him, after my husband and I eloped, they suddenly do not like anything about him.

He is Belizean and I am American. He didn't get a chance to go to university because his dad left at 8 and he has had to help his mom financially ever since (he is 24 now).

He has always had a job, even a consistent one with the government for 7 years but all my parents see is "he can't support you." My mom was a college drop-out and never worked a day in her life and was always supported by my dad. My dad can't understand that perhaps I will be the breadwinner of the household, not the man and that i chose, a man who adores kids and would love to be a stay-at-home dad.

Other judgements are that "you don't go backwards and raise your kids in a 3rd world country"--this is in regards that we partly wanted to raise our kids in belize, where we have land they can connect with nature on and learn medicinal plants and growing their own food. My husband has so many other "smarts" that a 4-yr college education never gave me. I can see my parents and I have clashing values and beliefs about raising kids.

Anyone ever been in a similar situation where you're judged based on your partners' lack of institutional university education? any support or advice? thanks!
